Please wait for a 8 week old puppy. It used to be 6 weeks but it is proven that the puppy needs that extra 2 weeks .

Please don't get a pet if you can't commit. Our neighbors got a puppy,it grew up then was chained up in an isolated area with little food or shelter. Now thay have another puppy in the home. (Heartbreaking!) I called AC and they moved the grown up dog to a better area but it is still ignored.
Great advice. I'd also like to add that cats and dogs of all ages need play and cuddle time. Older pets can become depressed as people commonly pay less and less attention to them than they do to kittens and puppies. Pets rely on their caregivers for love as well as "the basisc"! Spending daily time with your pet (ASIDE from a daily walk) is also the best way to spot any new physical or other problems that could be brewing.
Also, because not all pet food is healthful or even SAFE, when considering getting a pet, you have an obligation to look into quality foods (and other necessities) and then figure in their price to the cost of care. This is all creatures' birthright!
