You should try NOT to plant things like Squash, Cucmber, and Pumpkins by your Zucchini. Last year the bees had done some cross Pollinating with my neighbor's plants, I had Zucchini but no Pumpkins.
So we had to buy the Pumpkins and eat the Zucchini.

In my experience, zucchini can get really big so you want to leave a couple of feet bare in all directions, if you are planting seedlings.

We had tomatoes, peppers and eggplant in the same garden bed with no ill effects. The zucchini really dominated one end of the bed though.

Hi Jannah,
This depends upon whether the zucchini is bush or regular type. With the trailing (regular variety), just make sure you train the vines so they don't smother the companion plants. Here is a list of what I have found to make good "neighbors" with zucchini: Parsley, tomato, beets, spinach, other squashes/pumpkins, corn and peppers. I would think a plant that vines upward such as peas/beans would work very well, also. Hope this helps!

Zucchini gets along with beans or radishes.

Zucchini Brownies

2 cups shredded zucchini
1 1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp. Baking soda
1 egg
1/2 cup chopped nuts
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. Salt
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup oil
2 tsp. Vanilla

Mix all together and pour into an 11x15 greased pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 18-20 minutes.

Years ago while I was in college in speech class a girl spoke of 'companion planting' which described which plants go well with others. You could try that in your search engine and see what happens.

Last year I threw some old seeds I had of zucchini in around my tomatoes and peppers and they grew great. Another area I put some by my cucumbers and they great large also. Hope that helps.

Believe it or not one of the best companion plants for Zucchini is Nasturiums. It keeps the bugs away. You can also grrow melon plants and other squash in the same area. And planting borage next to squash also helps keep bugs away.

Radishes are a good bet because they mature before the bigger plant needs the space.
