Kitchen Cabinet Magnetic Latch?

My kitchen cabinets and the magnetic latches are a bit "aged". So aged that the magnets really hold well together. Is there any tip that you can offer that will make these magnets easier to open once again?

I don't know if it would work, but you might try rubbng both cabinet catches with wax paper, concentrating on the magnetic parts...Let us know if it works!

I would scrub the latches with steel wool to get them clean and then paint them with a varnish. That should make them magnetic but still release properly and the clear coating will keep them from getting dirty and rusting.

I've used scotch type tape over the plate that the magnet sticks against. I just keep putting on layers until it weakens it to my liking. Hope this makes sense. A wee bit tacky perhaps but it works.

I used the steel wool tip (a couple applications) and it did make a difference. Thanks.
