Anyone Tried The "Defiant Child Program"?

Has anyone tried the "Defiant Child" program? It's the Total Transformation Program and they say you can turn a kid's attitude around and get back control. I don't get much info from their web site and wonder if anyone has tried this or knows more about it? Thanks.

I saw the ads for the program you are talking about too but couldn't justify the $200+ price tag. Borders book store carries "The Kazdin Method for Parenting the Defiant Child" by Alan E. Kazdin, PhD. I swear by this book! First of all it was only $26 but it worked so well it was scary. It really was just changing simple things that we do every day. There are even chapters on how to include your child's teachers if need be. I would definatly give it a try before getting the CD series.

Here's a review of the Total Transformation Program from a local ABC news affiliate:
abclocal.go.com/.../local&id=4755805

There's also another program called "Tough Love". I think they have local meetings. This one is for REALLY defiant kids (Like I was as a teenager & It wouldn't have worked for me, I would have just left home). They talk about taking EVERYTHING out of the child's room including their clothes & bed because you paid for it & they have to earn it back.

* Don't get me wrong, I never disrespected my parents, but, boy-oh-boy did I have a mind of my own when I was away from them, way back in 1970! I think it was because my dad was "military" strict with me, & he didn't give an inch. Later on, he was much more understanding with my younger sister. I think he learned his lesson.

I'm surprised they don't have a lot of info on their site considering the price tag. I guess that's how companies are - they want you buy the product.

Anyway, it is a good program with a solid foundation of how to parent effectively. There is a lot to it with the workbook, CD's, DVD. They also have a parent support line which you can call for help so that's nice to know you can talk to someone about what you're learning/trying with your kids.

You can find reviews online from people who have the program and talk extensively about different parts of it. This is the largest one I've seen:

It's called MIND CONTROL ? BEHAVIOR MOD (modification) PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS.
www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF...

THERE ARE SO MANY REGRETS ABOUT THAT ISSUE THAT I CAN NOT EVEN BEGIN TO EXPLAIN!

I don't know your specifics & I am not trying to imply that I do but I would try to find out what exactly it is in your child's world that is causing the child to react or to over react to specific things

Example:
Little Susie tells you that she is going to quit school! She is in 2nd grade & is ready to quit & never go back!
Every day she puts a screaming fit of a fight about it!
Come to find out that after she GETS THERE & roll is called, little Susie is shuffled off to the cloak closet at the back of the room to spend the day on her feet to try to get the lessons from a crack in the door!

I do mean to alarm you & must say I am sorry at the same time, shocking or not this happened to me & I am still trying to figure out WHAT I DID SO WRONG TO DESERVE SUCH A THING. (This wasn't once or twice it was an everyday thing.)
I was corrected for a RIGHT not a wrong (several times in different situations) & it is very much the same as over correcting when you hit ice while driving!

Years later I still have issues with decision making!
(this is right no the other thing - no that is wrong try the other way)
www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1T4GGIK_enUS276US276...

I really do not care if 'they say" that this sort of thing is all over with - ended in the 70's.
Francine Kelly : America's Child Abuse Cover-up - Mind Control, Aug 12, 2007. Known as the Monarch Project, it has been verified and sexual abuse of children and horrific mind control technology may be tenets of:
www.francinekelly.com/index.php?option=com_content&task... (tons of info on the net to support this).

You do not know sometimes until it is too late!
If your going to go that far - the next thing ya know you are in charge of Ritalin doses on schedule everywhere you go (or another script) & by then you might as well start picking out a juvenile boot camp (where they use a lot of scare tactics)

This is quite a topic!

Hi -- I don't know how old your child is, and that might make a difference. The defiant two year old is a different problem from the defiant 16 years old. I don't know anything about this program, but it seems pricey to me. I would recommend reading Barbara Coloroso's books. She has several -- for various age groups. You can google her name and read about her. She is also an excellent speaker. One of her main themes is giving children responsibility for making their own decisions, and teaching them to make these decisions. I am sure that you can get her books through any public library, or if you wish to purchase them, at any large bookstore or from Amazon. I would recommend this before you put out money for an expensive program.

My oldest son was a very strong-willed 2 year old, but the older he got the easier he was to parent. As well, we had to allow him to make decisions for himself a couple of years before we thought he should be doing this, but he's turned out to be a great kid-- 25 years old now.

Cyinda : "TOUGH LOVE" is also used in different
"12 step programs"
In every 12 step program
there is the need presented in which you must accept a higher power (some choose to call God) & the 4th step is basically a written confession & the 5th step you share the 4th step with another person (called a sponsor)

program:
dictionary.reference.com/.../program
it's all the same :
program as in the
YOU EAT TOO MUCH PROGRAM
OR
I WANT TO CODE YOUR MIND SO YOU EAT LESS PROGRAM

really it is.

Other suggestions are "The Strong-Willed Child" book by Dr. James Dobson, or "Parenting by the Book" by John Rosemond.

I've been searching online for reviews on this program and am seeing mostly good reviews about it. Those that have so called bad experiences, i was told its because they did not fully practice what was taught. In any program, i will say that its vital to practice what you've learnt. Else, even the best advice will not help change anything. I came across a video that was recorded - probably on TV!

Perhaps this may help. www.child-central.com/James-Lehman-Total-Transformation...

The Total Transformation Program is solid. It is suitable for kids from 6-17, approx. It contains a LOT of useful info and I doubt any customer would be disappointed considering the free trial they offer.

If you have a kid under 6 (say 2-6) that is defiant, then I suggest "Talking To Toddlers", another audio course for much younger children. It's fantastic.
