Latex Kilz is considerably less expensive than oil based Kilz. Will the latex work as well in most situations?

My aunt does all kinds of constructing and renovating and has used killz paint for a very long time. She said the latex paint smells a lot better and does the same job. The only difference she said she's ever seen in it, was the price :D

The latex is also better for the environment.
