Problems Starting 2000 Tundra?

We have a 2000 Toyota Tundra that is acting weird. This morning a clicking was coming from the engine and when we lifted the hood the starter was trying to engage. When you open the door it stops. The battery was run down; we charged it and it started. As my husband backed out of the drive it died. When he put it in neutral it started on its own.

The local mechanic is checking it, but said if they can't figure it out and we may have to go to Toyota (gasp!). Anyone have a clue as to what is going on?

I'm not sure but before you go to Toyota go around to a local Auto Zone and ask the guys that work there. I have a friend that works at one and he heres about all kinds of things happening with cars and how they get resolutions.

There is also a automotive solutions website that I used to solve a problem years ago but I don't recall what it was called. You can go to ASK.com and find a couple places to ask for help. Try a search for "+Toyota +Tundra repair advise".

Thanks for the feedback. Will keep this in mind. It was the computer (duh) and costs about $500 to fix! But we have had the truck for 9 years and this is the first expense! So we are praising the Lord it wasn't worse!

Some times they don't usually work so use the key instead.
