Homemade Wall Sizing?

Anyone have a recipe for homemade wall sizing that is used on the wall before applying wallpaper? Thanks so much.

I was a professional wallpaper hanger for many years, so I have some recommendations for you. First, please do not try to make something from ingredients you might have at home. Wallpaper sizing is not only for preparing the wall to receive the paper; it helps the paper to adhere properly, helps to protect the walls from damage when the paper is eventually removed and helps to keep mildew from forming as the paste is curing (this process takes about 30 days after it is hung).

Something you can do if you are determined to try to save a few dollars is to buy some of the type of adhesive that the wall covering would be hung with and thin it down about 50 to 75%, more or less depending on the viscosity of the paste.

You need to be able to apply it with a paint roller and trim out with a paint brush just as if you were painting the wall.

If you are unsure about what to buy, get adhesive for vinyl wall covering and go from there. Vinyl adhesive will have qualities that are appropriate for about any type of wall covering.

Be sure not to get paste on the face of the wall covering if it is a delicate type such as a fabric or grass cloth. Delicate types can be stained by almost any adhesive. Hope this helps.

Do you happen to know what wall sizing is composed of? Would I be able to use it on Art papers? I like to pre-coat
my specialty papers before printing on them and am looking for a suitable pre-coat for this purpose.

Thanks for any response you can give.
