How Do I Supply Power to an Outdoor Spa and Waterfall?

I have a spa coming in and I'm building a waterfall both at the end of my yard, about 40 feet away from the house. How do I legally run power to them? The spa takes 220V.

My guess is that you'll need to go underground, which will be expensive and tear apart your yard. I would call an electrician. They could probably give you an idea over the phone. Is there a closer place to put the spa?
