What Is Washing Soda?

Bronze Request Medal for All Time! 65 Requests

Does anyone know what 'washing soda' is?

I've seen it on this site, and I know it's not baking soda.

Thanks!

Arm and Hammer makes it .. If you can't find it at your super market google it. It can be purchased online. It is a laundry additive for people who prefer natural rather than chemical preparations. It is packaged in the big yellow box very much like the baking soda box.

Try looking on the bottom shelf -- that's always where they put it because it's not a big seller.

WAshing soda is sometimes sold under the brand name 20 Mule Team Borax aka Borax. Borax also makes a product called Boraxo.

Arm and Hammer is another brand name that may manufacture the product you are trying to purchase. You might check their website to see what products are made.

Editor's Note: Washing Soda is different than borax. Borax is made from several chemicals: webmineral.com/.../Borax.shtml Washing Soda is Sodium Carbonate. Boraxo is the hand soap which contains borax and pumice and some other things.

Washing soda is sodium carbonate. I got some at a swimming pool store, it is used in swimming pools. I can't find it in the grocery stores around here anymore.
