Cleaning Out Soap Bottles?

Does anyone know how to remove the fragrance from the 2 gallon Tide, Era, and other bottles to reuse for water jugs? I have a dry water well at my barn and 3 horses that need drinking water this winter.

Thought these bottles would be ideal for water transport. I've been collecting them from people's curbs all summer.

Try a mixture of vinegar and water and let it sit in the jugs over night and see if that gets rid of it.

Try vinegar and baking soda and let it soak. Then rinse really well with hot water.

Some plastic bottles are not made for containing any type of food/beverages. In other words, they are not food grade safe.

I would think detergent bottles would be one of them. I wouldn't want to take that chance of getting your horses sick.

Wash them out, then rinse with vinegar to get rid of odor and soap residue.

Any smell of container fragrance could removed by coffee powder , put some coffee powder with hot water then rinse until the smell gone

Yes, rinse excessively well. Fill bottle with tap water adding a scoop of baking soda. Cap and let sit a day or so. Empty bottle and allow to air dry. Leave cap off a place outside in dry location for a week, a sunny spot works well. This will give the bottles a thorough airing.

Rinse, fill with water, cap and wait a day. Remove cap and smell. There should be no smell, if no smell then taste. Should only taste water. If they smell or taste soapy or whatever repeat.
