Potato Flakes to Thicken Gravy

To make a thickener to go into gravies or other dishes that need thickening, add some instant potato flakes. I have done this for a year now and it does a great job thickening up, especially homemade gravies that won't thicken because you failed to get enough flour in the gravies. It doesn't go thick all at once like corn starch does.

Potato flakes work great to thicken spaghetti sauce and chili as well, if you don't want to wait for them to cook down. However, too many of them will make the spaghetti or chili taste potato-y.

I use potato flakes as a thickener for most soups and sauces. Much better than flour or cornstarch - no lumps!
