Recycling Water Around The Home

Our two favorite ways to conserve/recycle water is using plants and pet dishes. Drop an ice cube? Instead of throwing it in the sink to melt, put it in a pet's water dish. You pet will love having cold water for a change.

Roof leaking? Instead of putting buckets under the dripping area, put a plant there.

Have a party where guests leave their drinks half finished? If any of the cups have water, dump the remains into the pet's water dish (or potted plant).

If you use well water and the electricity goes out for a long time from a winter storm, melt the snow to sanitize the water and then use for cooking or washing. If you think an upcoming storm will leave you in a lurch, put a few pots or buckets outside to gather the snow as it falls. Keeps the snow a little cleaner than if you had to scoop the snow off a patio table or the family car.

Really smart thinking!

If you have a faucet leak or leaky roof, collect the water and then pour it into your toilet. It will flush your toilet without using the water in the tank.

It usually takes about 2 liters but don't use a 2 liter bottle. You most pour a large amount all at once.

Don't forget the water that you cook eggs, pasta or veggies in. If you don't save it for soup, water the plants with it. Cooled, of course!

Waiting for hot water to reach the faucet; keep a pitcher or other container nearby and save that good water for another use.

Have a party and empty your guests unfinished water into your pets water dish? Really, you don't mean that......

you wouldn't give the left over water to your children. Dump the water in your plants or try the toilet.

To think I would treat my dog the way this person suggests is an affront. Put the ice cube in your own drink. Fix the roof, who knows what the water leak is bringing into the house from where it begins on the roof and drips along rafters, etc. Where does this person get these ideas? I'd sure hate to be this person's pet.

Water for plants, ok. Put dirty contaminated water in my pet's dish? No. My pets deserve better than someone else's germs and spit in the water. Hate to be a pet in your home.
