I went to a skin care class and then became a consultant back in 2000. A girl there with beautiful skin told me she cleaned her skin with witch hazel on a cotton ball, and then used peroxide on a cotton ball. I didn't try it but used the products I was selling for several years. I dont sell the products anymore and can't afford that expensive stuff, so I started using the witch hazel and peroxide on my face and upper arms, where I break out. It keeps it clear, and when I do get a pimple, it doesn't stay long, one use and it just dries up! ...But it is something you have to do every day to keep your skin clear.

Go see a dermatologist. There are many new and efective treatments for acne.

Tea tree oil is a natural antibiotic. You can use it mixed with some water on your face after cleansing - it will help fight the bacteria that occurs in most acne.

Also try using egg yolk that you have slightly beaten as a mask on your face a couple of times a week. Apply and leave it on until it is dry, then rinse well. Egg yolk has beta carotene, Omega oils, and Vit E. all of which are good for your skin.

Sunshine (but not excessively so) is generally also good for your skin and helps your body generate Vit. D which is important for your skin.

There are a lot of prescription meds available for acne from a dermatologist. Only you can decide if they are worth trying and pursuing. Both my husband and my daughter took antibiotics, which helped, but didn't cure. Both ended up taking Accutane. The Accutane completely cured my daughter's acne, but my husband had only semi-good results and experienced a lot of side effects from the Accutane. It is very expensive treatment and generally works better on true acne than on rosacea. If you have severe acne it can cause scarring if not treated. Only you can decide if the treatment is worth it.

My other daughter used the above natural treatments with good, though not perfect, results. If you are in your teens you will likely grow out of the acne (though of course you want to deal with it while you have it with appropriate care). Once you are past 25 or so, it is more likely a lifelong situation (my husband's case).

I have found the only thing that has worked well for me is salicylic acid / oxy 10 mixture. I purchased my own on ebay. I mix a 20% mixture of salicylic with facial lotion. It works out like 1tbs salicyllic powder, 1/2 tsp. Oxy 10, and then like 2 1/2 of my favorite lotion. or cetaphyl wash since you dont wipe that off. Basically you need it in lotion form to not wipe off. I place it only on the areas where I get acne.(sides of eyes temples...and lower cheeks.) Its very drying...and I can use apricot seed oil over it after it drys. ( I also have found that TCA peels and glycolic peels can be done to help the texture of your skin.. depending on your age.) But my skin is flawless now and when I stop this program I break out horribly. I also drink lots of water and work out every day.

(If you use any acid on your face use sunscreen!) I notice if I have a horrible painful pimple that is deep the salicyllic acid will be all I need to make it reduce overnight. I will hit it with the mixture above....or even increase the salicyllic concentration to like 30 percent. Then I put a dab of 70% glycolic acid on it and it will be gone within 4 days w/ little or no pain. These just work for me but I learned this from going to skin and allergy news or other research in derm studies and developed my own program through it. You can do the same just do research and stick to the medical like medscape writings. Id not take advice from forums even what I wrote...always test your sources

The answer to your question is to first find out what is causing the problem. No amount of topical creams will help you in the long term, until you find the source of the problem. I used to get HUGE pimples on my back and chest. I happened to discover that this occurred when I drank soda pop. Any kind of pop will set this off.

Try a little test. Don't drink pop for about 2 weeks or more, see if the affected area clears up. Also, if you are drinking anything with an artificial sweetener, this too could cause a reaction.
(Still to this day, when I break down and have pop, even just one, I end up with huge, painful pimples.) Hope this helps!

I have it bad on my chest and back, I tried using retin-A but its so powerful it burnt my skin and gave me a bad rash, and now my skin won't go back to normal and whenever I use a product on my chest or back it gets a bigger rash and it burns. So I need something that will help and not dry my skin out and might help moisterise it!
HELP PLEASE.
I have also tried witch hazel, and noxema, these products have not worked for me and I used adult acne treatment and nothing happened.

I started washing my back really good and it cleared up but left scars, but once my back was clear it went to my chest! Why? and we just moved and have diffreent water, can that be the problem or can a new house cause it?

HELP

Witch hazel as a toner is a miracle worker! You can also try the Aspirin mask. Take 2 aspirins, SPRINKLE water over them, wait for them to dissolve. You can add honey or witch hazel on the mixture. Use the mixture as a scrub, and leave it on as a mask for 10 mins. After a few days, you'll see a difference! Hope this helps you.

Please Help

I have acne on my face, back and chest. On my face, it started off on my forehead but is now on my cheeks, chin and I have pretty bad acne next to my eyes sort of place. On my back I have it, and I have it around my breast area but it recently started moving down towards my belly button. I don't like wearing a bikini because everyone can see the acne and I'm really self conscious because it is all over my face. I have tried Clearasil Ultra and Clean and Clear. I don't have that much money so I need something cheapish.

I try to ask my mum to order Proactive for me but she just says "oh, it will go away." and I have heard that you can't miss a treatment of roactive or the acne comes back worse then ever. I feel really bad and I just wish it would go away.

Is there any good over the counter product that could work? Clearasil Ultra cleared my skin and then made it red, peel off and then I got worse acne then ever. It made my skin itchy too. Clean and Clear did nothing for me. I have pretty oily skin and it might be a bit sensitive because my dad's skin is really sensitive.

Sometimes, the acne is just red and annoying, but other times it really hurts and it sometimes is even itchy. So, I am looking for an acne product that is over the counter, cheapish, easy to use and will clear acne on my face and back and chest. Otherwise a homemade remedy. I tried honey and cinnamon for one night, but it is so sticky that I was scared it was going to make my pillow an ant haven.

Otherwise I will try to convince mum to let me go to a dermatologist, but I would be really embarrassed to show the dermatologist my skin.

Please help. Thank you very much. Sarah
Also, what is Witch Hazel?

Editor's Note Witch hazel is an astringent produced from the leaves and bark of the North American Witch Hazel shrub (Hamamelis virginiana).

Me again - I have read on places on the internet that vitamin c and zinc are really good at getting rid of and preventing acne. Have any of you tried this? Does it work? Do you think I should by vitamin c AND zinc or use the one for skin, hair and nails.
I am looking at the Herron range by the way
Thank you

Try murad! You have to order it and it might be a little bit more than you are willing to spend. but ask your mum.

I'm not kidding it does work, it doesn't even dry out your skin. Use it for 2 weeks straight and you'll be set! Make sure to keep it up. or it will come back worse just like any other thing you use!

I've used everything. It goes away, but then it comes back even worse! I want to use something that won't be harmful for my body, and something that is natural.

I have severe acne on my chest and back. I cant show my body off, I wear high tops that cover my body. I've had these for at least 6 years I've tried everything and I mean everything! nothing seems to work. I've gone to the doctor he tells me that i will grow out of it. I've had it for 6 years and still nothing has changed it is getting worse everyday. I drink lots of water but nothing happens. Every cream and prescription my doctor has said to me, does not work.

I'm an elderly lady, but as a teen I was like you, it was terribly embarrassing. I also have a very oily complexion. Many years ago I discovered that if you take Listerine, the yellow kind, not the one with the bleachers. Don't want to bleach your skin. All you need is a bag of cotton balls and a bottle of listerine. Once in the morning and then again in the evening. Take the cotton balls and pour the Listerine on them and cleanse your face. It may burn just a little in the beginning, but it's not to bad. I guarantee you that you will notice a huge difference the VERY NEXT Day. If your acne is severe you may wanna do it three times a day, but twice a day should be sufficient. Stick to this requirement, I still do it to this day and have beautiful skin.
You see Listerine is an astringent and it kills bacteria. I promise you this will work and it is very affordable. Good Luck
