Mushroom Mish Mash (Copycat)

Cook hamburger patties size of steak burgers in sherry cooking wine. Saute mushrooms in butter and cooking sherry, combine with Mushroom Soup. Pour over patties and top with chopped green onions and shredded Cheddar Cheese.

That was called the Squire's Pride. The Mish Mash was a tomato based topping with onions and peppers. I really wish you had that recipe!

To the best of my memory the mish mash was the following:

Heat canned tomatoes and add a bit of brown sugar and a little salt. Cook long enough to cook off extra liquid.

Sautée chopped green pepper and onion in butter Drain any liquid and
add to the tomatoes.
Cook your hamburger patty on a grill.
Pour tomato mish mash over hamburger patty and top with grated cheddar cheese and a few chopped scallions

That is not mushroom mish mash. Not in the Houston TX area. The mushrooms sauteed in sherry with mushroom sauce and cheddar cheese. My very favorite and I ate it every time.

I have so many fond memories of Steak n Ale ....
here is the recipe as I remember it for Squires Pride

Cook your hamburger patty on your grill.

Mushroom sauce
Cream of mushroom soup mixed with whipping cream
Sliced fresh mushrooms added
A tiny bit of sherry added
Garlic powder
Salt

Pour this hot mixture over your hamburger patty. Top with grated cheddar cheese and chopped scallions.
Enjoy!

In Dallas they had something called MishMash and as I remember there was a topping consisting of chopped tomatoes onion green pepper and it was cool or warm sever over a chopped sirloin patty. Id love to find that recipe. It was in late 70s 80s.

Sirloin patty w heaping helping of fresh chopped tomatos, then generously topped w the finest grated cheddar cheese. Was my favorite @ Steke & Ale in Atlanta.
