You must file a tax return if your income is above a certain level. The amount varies depending on filing status, age and the type of income you receive.
Tax Receipts for Thrift Store Donations
Tax Receipts for Thrift Store Donations. The sales person who gave me a receipt for donation in the thrift shop refused to put an amount on it if it worth less than $500. Now I have 3 receipts which indicate only number of shopping bags. What amount will I put as a TAX deduction?
Are cash gifts less than $10,000 taxable?
Are cash gifts less than $10,000 taxable?
One of the primary rules of being frugal is TRY TO DO IT YOURSELF FIRST. I just finished doing my own taxes with the help of a J.K. Lasser book. Not only does it give me a MUCH better idea of my finances...
For all of us here in the U.S. today is the last day to file your income tax return. If you have already filed, great, but if you haven't yet filled out your forms, it might be best to file for an extension. . .
Taxes: Get Ready for Next Year
With the tax season already behind us (almost!), here are a few suggestions I have to make next year's preparations a bit easier.
For anyone who files the family taxes, finding deductions is an effort which gives great rewards. One of the easiest places to find deductions is in tax deductible donations to charities. Any donation made to a non-profit charity can be claimed on income tax as a deduction.
Pay Your Children to Work for You with the Blessing of the IRS
You've heard that you can't have your cake and eat it, too. But hiring your own family is one case when you can. Pay your minor or adult children to work for your business, then write it off as an expense.
Staying Prepared for Tax Season
Tax season is here. I've learned the hard way to stay prepared. Throughout the year I save ALL receipts. I use a bookkeeping program and enter the receipts into it weekly or more often as needed.
Staying organized for tax time. Post your ideas.
Early Refund Loans are a Bad Deal
Thinking about getting an early refund loan when you have your taxes done? Those early refund loans are a bad idea from a frugal point of view--the effective interest rate on them is sky high.
Auto Depositing Your Tax Return
When electronically or e-filing your tax return with an anticipated refund, make sure the bank account you designate for the direct deposit has your name on it.
Keeping Track of Deductions Throughout The Year
At the end of the month when I reconcile my bank statement I go ahead and start adding together all of the tax write offs for January. I staple them all together and put a cover sheet on top with the numbers. I do this at the end of every month.
Buying a home is a one of the biggest decisions you will make in your lifetime. Therefore it should be well thought out, since it will also be one of the most expensive purchases you will ever make. But, despite the grandiose expenses, there is a positive side, which is the tax advantages give to lessen the cost.
Avoid tax refunds. Getting one usually indicates poor tax planning. It means that you have overpaid your taxes throughout the year. What's worse, you're not even collecting interest on the funds you're "lending" to the IRS. Adjust your withholding at work so that less is taken out each payday. By joesgirl
Get Your Refund In Your Paycheck
It's Time To Think About Your Taxes Yes, I know that tax time has passed for most of us. I also know that most of you anxiously await that W2 form each year so that you can take it straight to a tax preparer anticipating a big refund. In many cases this could be costing you a bundle.
For many of us who just finished paying our taxes, we feel a sense of relief that we are able to put all thoughts of taxes behind us for another 12 months or so. Right??? Wrong!!! It's never too early to start preparing for the next years taxes and the sooner you start, the happier you'll be in 12 months.
Your Best Tax Strategy-Start a Side-Business
I'm busy enough! I don't have time to start a business! What good would it do me anyway? Well, having your own business is one of the best ways to save money on taxes and considering that many of you just finished paying Uncle Sam all your wages from January to May 2000, I thought you might be interested in this topic.
It's getting close to tax time again. A few readers suggested we do a Brainstorm looking for tax tips so here it is. Does anyone have any advice or tips to help people during the tax season?
Dear Dollar Stretcher, My husband and I own our home and pay our mortgage bi-monthly. We pay our property taxes twice a year and in our area it comes up to almost $400 each spring and autumn. That's a lot of money to come up with extra during those times. A friend mentioned that she had her property taxes somehow 'worked into' her mortgage payments and it didn't increase them very much. This is something we'd like to look into, but weren't sure about the details. Can you advise if this is a 'smart' thing to do and what exactly this process is called and how it works. Thanks, Kim in Indiana
