Homemade Brass Polish Recipe

I want to polish a brass teakettle and don't want to use commercial polish. Does anyone have a brass polish recipe?

The following information is from the ehow.com website:

Combine a mixture of 1 tsp. salt, 1 cup vinegar and flour (as much as needed to form a paste).

Apply the paste liberally to the copper items you're cleaning.

Allow the paste to sit for a while for maximum effect--no less than 15 minutes. For items that have been neglected for years or have high levels of corrosion, a longer period of time is recommended (up to 1 hour).

Rinse away a small area of the paste to test its effectiveness. Determine whether a longer period of time is needed: If the copper below is bright and shiny, rinse the entire item with warm water; if not, allow the paste to sit longer to complete the cleaning process.

Dry each copper item thoroughly to maximize the time between necessary cleanings. The end result should be a nice, clean, corrosion-free, copper shine.

Or
Prepare a paste of ¼ cup of white vinegar and 2 tbsp. of coarse salt.

Rub the paste onto the copper pot using a soft cloth. Scrub the pot with as much pressure as needed to produce the
desired results.

Add a squirt of mild, dish washing detergent into a sink of warm water. Place the pot into warm water and rinse thoroughly. Remove the pot and dry with a soft towel.
