Denture Cleaning Tablets For Bottles

One of the best methods I have found is to buy the tablets for cleaning dentures. Depending on how large the bottle is, drop a whole one or 1/2 of one in the bottle and add hot water. Vinegar is another good cleaner. As a matter of fact, I am cleaning one with vinegar as I write this.

Sand And Vinegar For the Inside of Bottles

I have used a couple of different methods for cleaning bottles or other hard to reach items. The first one is filling the object with straight, plain vinegar and letting it sit for a day or two. If this does not work then add a bit of sand to the vinegar and shake it really well, repeatedly.

If this does not work, I have used denture cleaning tablets. I break one into small enough pieces to drop them into the object being cleaned. Then add warm water and let sit. If it does not get cleaned on the first try then I repeat the process. Both of these methods have worked successfully for me on many different items, such as narrow necked bottles, salt and pepper shakers, vases, etc.

Salt to Clean Inside Bottles

Put in some coarse salt inside the bottle with a bit of water and swirl it around. The salt scours off the crud and it can be rinsed out easily. Repeat if necessary.

I have also used a broken denture cleaning tablet, added warm water, and let it work on the crud. Repeat if necessary. Rinse well.

Cleaning a Small Bottle

I had an old glass Bo Peep Ammonia bottle. I was thrilled with it, because I love anything vintage. However, it had a very small mouth. The idea to clean it, was to use a small piece of a shim, cut lengthwise (make sure you cut a piece as small as the mouth of the bottle).

You could use a wire if you have one, but it needs to be strong, not a bendable one. Then I put a baby bottle nipple brush on the end, and taped it on the "stick." It worked like a charm!

Of course, you need to make a cleaning solution to dip the brush in to clean. You might actually have a piece of a shim stick in your house, so look before you go buy! :)

Shake Bottle With Dish Soap Or Detergent

Rinse obvious debris out of the bottle. Then put two tablespoons of powdered, automatic dishwashing detergent in the bottle. Or place one tablespoon salt, and one teaspoon dish soap in bottle. Add very hot water until 1/3 full.

Cover opening with thumb. Shake bottle, up and down, from side to side, and forward and backward. Make certain you mix it up in every angle of the bottle.

If it foams too much, re-do this procedure with less dish soap. You may increase the salt this time.

Clean Inside of Bottles With Dishwasher Detergent

I have found putting granulated dishwasher soap in the bottle, filling it with the hottest water possible, and letting it soak overnight works well.
