Quilted Tote Bag

I make cakes, make quilts and now I decided to get into purses and totebags. I take the fabric and cut into squares, four squares any measure. I do the same thing with the inside lining. Sew the front and back together as well as the lining. Make the handles any length you like and sew it to the top of the purse or totebag.

Growing Organic Vegetables at Home

I love to grow organic vegetables they taste so much better than chemically grown. If you think that it is hard to do you are so wrong. It is actually easier once you get established.

To make this simple costume, cut a platter from a large circle of cardboard with a hole in the middle for child's legs to fit through. Tie on some off-white yarn strings like suspenders.

Coffee Can Bird Feeder

I took an empty coffee can, painted it orange then sponged another layer of a different shade of orange to look like stripes on the body. The face was cut out of wood scrap with a hole cut out for the mouth and then stapled the plastic lid to the wood.

Old Baby Gate For A Trellis

Do you remember the old wooden baby gates? If you see one at a garage sale or an auction, they make an excellent trellis. I have a clematis growing on mine that I started this year.

Farm Book For Visiting Boys

My 2 nephews, age 1 and 4, came for a visit while on vacation. I wanted to give them something to remember their trip to our house. My parents came a few days before and we put books together. I printed off pictures of the farm animals, pets, family members, tractor and 4 wheeler (they are boys that like machines!).

Crochet With Old T-Shirts

I like to crochet rag rugs out of fabric scraps. However, you always have to deal with the edges fraying. I got an idea. My husband had about 11 old colored cotton tee shirts. I cut them up in 1 1/2 inch strips going around and around.

Make a Bathroom Vanity from an Old Dresser

Use an old dresser to make a vanity for your bathroom. I crackled this one and then also did some sanding to bring out the gold, as this was the basecoat. Then I stenciled over the top and poly coated it.

Putting Samplers to Use

I often teach my children basic embroidery stitches using simple designs. If you are helping a little one to do stitching, this is a nice way to put the sample pieces to use.

Garage Turned Into A Home

I'm saving money (so I can keep up with student loan payments!) by living in my parents' garage. I decided to make it a little less garage-like so I'm attacking one area at a time, hiding storage, cleaning old paint stains, organizing my stuff and making it look as homey as possible.

We had to cut down a dead tree a few years ago but could not remove the stump for several reasons. To cover up the stump and some raised roots we decided to put in a pond and garden.

Surprises in the Garden

I don't like monotony, and I love surprises. So with each new season, I buy a variety of flower and vegetable seeds, mix them all in one bag and sprinkle them at random around my garden.

Craft: Basket Lampshades

Craft: Basket LampshadesI want to share a photo of one of my projects from several years ago. I found a great wicker basket with a fluted edge and it had a handle on it. I kept looking at this basket and flipped it over and decided to cut off the handles and make it into a lampshade for a lamp I had.

Cutting PVC: What Would Susan Do?

Cutting PVC: What Would Susan Do?Recently, I needed some white plastic shelves put back together in a closet. However, I had a gap that didn't reach the top, but the full height of the shelf was too high. So, I decided to use my trusty dusty little 3.97 hacksaw and cut the PVC like supports down. But, without a vise, it's hard to hold them.

Craft: Gingerbread Houses

Craft: Gingerbread HousesHere is a great tradition that our family has been doing for years now. It all started about 50 years ago when I decide to make a gingerbread house for Christmas. My first ones were fairly simple but over the years have gotten more complicated and quite intricate. Now, as was bound to happen, the kids and grandkids and even my great grandson have taken over.
