Craft Project: Spooky Eyes Luminaries
Spaghetti jars get a Halloween makeover! Use either glow sticks or battery-operated votive candle for a safe, easy luminary this year. Super-easy; let the kids do this craft for your window ledge or porch, set along the path to the treats.
Halloween: Little Indian Maiden
I took fleece material, cut it and made it into a simple jumper. I made it big so she could dress warm that night. Cut fringe and sew trim on bottom of skirt. Add a head band with a feather and feather trim in front of jumper.
Craft Project: Autumn Leaf Garland
Autumn-hued folded paper leaves are linked together to create a garland. Make a leaf and center leaf template from a piece of cardstock. Fold 11 x 6 inch piece of paper in half crosswise. Place the leaf template on the folded edge of paper.
Craft Project: Spider Egg Sac Light Cover
The magic of Halloween happens outside, at night; right? I made this easy decoration to go over the globe of the porch light. You can too for almost nothing!
Craft Project: Halloween Wreath
Time to get ready for those witches and goblins. This thrifty craft wreath was made in a matter of minutes from inexpensive things I found around the house and some clip art I found on the web.
To make face paint mix 1 tsp. cornstarch, 1/2 tsp. cold cream, 1/2 tsp. cold water and add food coloring. Mix the ingredients well and paint away! This will wash off with cold cream.
Craft Project: Super Mario Brothers Costume
What gamer doesn't love the Mario Brothers? Turn your kid into one or the other of these lovable little plumbers for Halloween. The costume is warm, comfortable, and can be made reflective with the addition of some reflective tape.
Save the bright orange liquid detergent bottles during the year. Remove the label by soaking in hot water. Decorate the front of the bottle with either black felt, or black fun foam cut into triangle eyes, and nose, and zigzag mouth.
Craft: Duct Tape Superhero Costumes
Making costumes can be a lot easier if you use duct tape. There are two ways I like: Make fabric out of duct tape and then make a costume like you normally would.
Halloween: Horse Costume (Dog)
I never enjoyed playing with dolls when I was little, but I get a real kick out of dressing my dogs for Halloween. This year I made a special costume for Petey because he is as big as a horse!
Halloween: Box O' Popcorn Costume
I took a box, painted it white. Then I painted red stripes, leaving a spot to make the circle (I used a pan lid to make the circle.) I cut holes out for his head and arms (cut the flaps off the open end of the box where the legs come out).
Halloween: Michael Jackson Costume
Wow, this was hard to do, I can't lie. This is Michael "Drackson" (as my son calls him). We used DVD videos to sketch the make of the jacket. We bought a 60's style costume and used the little black leather jacket pattern.
This year my son DJ was invited to a Halloween party at the last minute and had to come up with something quick. We pulled this idea together with things we had around the house and it was a huge hit!
Halloween: "A Cow Says Moo" Costume
Take a man's size large crew neck white tee shirt. Take pants and shirt that fit your toddler and lay them out on the shirt. Cutout around the pants and shirt 1 inch larger. Cut out large "spots" from black fabric.
Halloween: Starbucks Coffee Costume
This idea came to me because I admit, I love coffee. So much in fact, that I turned into one.
Halloween: Popeye and Olive Oyl Costumes
Popeye's arms are two pairs of tights (one inside the other) stuffed in the middle with stuffing and sewn to the sleeve of his shirt. I used some red material to pin around his neck for his collar and his yellow karate belt for his waist.
We cut the stake body out of a photocopier paper box and spray painted it black. For the logs, we cut foam swimming pool noodles down to size and 'strapped' them in with a length of duct tape. We used a pair of suspenders to hold the box onto our son's back.
Halloween: Lollipop Guild Munchkin Costume
This is a very basic and clean costume that uses 2 button down shirts, a pair of gray cut slacks, white/gray striped leggings and a pair of boots. The hair style would be best if it was a big curl at the top of the head.
Halloween: Bubble Gum Machine Costume
Dress child in clothes. Cut arm and neck holes in bag. Put bag on the child as a shirt. Tape the bottom opening tight around their waist. Fill the bag with the balls from neck opening.
Halloween: Hermit Crab Costume
Cut 8 - 3 1/4 inch strips of red felt, the length of the child's arms. Taper at ends, sew two pieces together to make tubes and stuff. There should be 4 arms total, two for each side. Stitch in 3 joints in each arm
Craft Project: Spooky Sparkle Glassware
Put a bit of sparkle into your home this Halloween by transforming plain glassware into a stunning centrepiece or candle holder. All you need are some old tumblers, cocktail glasses or any other suitable glasses you have to hand, some glitter and lots of imagination.
Halloween Costume: Headless Horseman
This costume has always won first place any time I have used it. We usually have someone lead the child around for safety.
Craft Project: Witch Boot Centerpiece
I wanted to make a new centerpiece for Halloween this year, but I didn't want an ordinary container. I have used pumpkins and plastic cauldrons in the past, but I wanted something thriftier and unusual.
Craft Project: Halloween Candy Corn Tree
Halloween candy corn tree used as a centerpiece or a decoration.
