I used to buy gallons and gallons of milk when my kids were little. It was always gone in a couple of days. They used to tell me "mom! we're out of milk"!
Here's how to make your own whipped cream cheese instead of paying extra for it at the market.
I was reading a tip on how to make butter go a long way. It stated to warm the butter slightly, then add equal amount of canola oil then blend together.
I cannot find Philadelphia "Whipped" cream cheese in "Fat Free". I bought some Fat Free and am looking on ways to make it into a "Whipped" version. I do not know what to add to the fat free cream cheese in order to whip it; fat free milk? Thanks.
Make Your Own Butter and Whipped Cream
This tip is to help cut down on grocery cost with just a little time and fore-thought. Get heavy whipping cream (the best buy is a half gallon). Then, whip it with either an electric mixer or a whisk to your desired consistency.
Try Organic Milk Instead of Lactose Free Milk
I can not drink regular milk. In the past I had to drink lactose free milk. Then one day, I tried the organic milk, I was just fine with it. So now I consume organic milk instead of regular lactose free milk.
Store your sour cream and cottage cheese containers upside down in the refrigerator. It will be good long past the expiration date. I've used mine long after the date.
With the cost of milk so high, you can save a little by using evaporated milk for cereal and cooking and saving jug milk for drinking. Also once the can is opened you can keep the rest fresh and ready by pouring into an ice tray and freezing into cubes.
I was given several cans of evaporated milk and powdered milk, but I don't know how to use them in everyday cooking. Any ideas?
Stretch Whole Milk With Powdered Milk
To stretch milk, I have mixed up powdered milk and added it to the regular milk. Instead of 1 gallon, I had 2 and, since they were mixed together, no one was the wiser. I have also frozen milk in ice cube trays, when I wanted milk for tea or coffee, I just added a cube. No waste, and the milk did not sour on me.
Though many people have an aversion to buttermilk, this tasty, cultured dairy staple has a place in every frugal household. Apart from being a delicious, nutritious drink, it is also used in making many a tasty treat such as biscuits, pancakes, waffles - but also in pies, cakes, breads, and even soups and ice cream.

Use Heavy Whipping Cream To Make Butter
Making your own butter from heavy whipping cream is very easy, saves you money, is better for you than margarine, and you also get buttermilk (an expensive item in the market to buy). Buttermilk is good to drink, and is great for baking and making salad dressings.
I do not pay for the store to water down my milk, as in 2% and such. We found that we can do this at home. Buy whole milk and add cold water to it. Since this is a matter of taste, you will have to find what suits your family best.
I would like to hear from ladies who use powdered milk and what you usually pay for a pound. Here in California, it is $4.50 a pound. This is from a bulk bin at a discount grocery. This seems high to me. How much milk do you get from a pound? All the recipes I see go by cups. The price of milk is so high I want to switch but I don't know if it is worth changing. Milk is $3.20 a gallon for comparison.

Making Powdered Milk Taste Better
I am using powdered milk to save money (I get the powdered milk for free). Is there anything I can do to the reconstituted milk to make it taste better? I added a tablespoon of sugar and some vanilla today, nothing changed. It still tastes like powder.
