To save money on furnishings, get furniture kits instead of furniture that is already built. Building from a kit comes out just as well as ready built. It just requires a little effort and generally it is not that hard to follow instructions.

Take a distressed old drawer and hang it on your wall for use as a wall shelf. You can make it look old or new with paint, even add contact or wallpaper to the inside for a cheerful look. And leaving the knobs on at the bottom can serve as hangers for chimes, mobiles, or whatever you choose, maybe even kitchen towels.

Get two 2-drawer file cabinets for hanging files (metal $59, Plastic $38 at Staples or used for around $10) Set them up 2 feet apart, and lay a flat interior door on top. Unfinished, those are around $20. Put the lock cut-out at the back and bring all your cables neatly up through it. Done. By DearWebby
