Coordinating Remodeling Jobs on Your House with the Neighbors
When you need big jobs done on your house (replace the roof, resurface the driveway, etc.) look around and see if any of your neighbors need the same job done. You have a lot of bargaining power with the contractor if you can talk about two jobs, next door to each other.

Looking For Home Makeover for a Teacher
I'm looking for a home makeover for a Brentwood teacher that lives on her family's property since birth on the land. Here is also the home of her ancestors which has become a historical landmark in our small area. Merry is going to have to sell the property because of her constant love for other people who are less fortunate than she is and has caused a great bit of damage to her home she resides in. It's a beautiful ranch that has been lost in time. If she had this makeover we could prevent her from losing her home of 54 yrs.
10 Things To Consider Before Planning And Installing A New Bathroom
Whether you want to install a new bathroom or make improvements to an existing one there are some decisions you need to make and challenges to overcome. A bathroom must be tailored to your requirements and every plan will vary depending on the planner's needs.
Buying Used Items for Remodeling
I'm in the process of remodeling and rather than going and buying new stuff, I'd like to see what's available used (and less expensive!). Does anyone know where I can look?
We would like to screen in our own front porch. It is an old fashioned front porch with cement and brick railings. If we could screen it in, it would make a great place to sit outside. But I can't find instructions.
Besides providing your home with more living space, a home addition can be a terrific investment. However, before embarking on such a project the homeowner should first consider several important items. These items include: home market values in the neighborhood, financing, size and scale of project, architecture, timetable for completion, personal disruption/inconvenience threshold and the sweat equity commitment level.
When considering home repairs when you don't plan on doing the work yourself, don't sign any contract that requires full payment before a satisfactory job is finished.
Remodeling a kitchen is one of the best investments a homeowner can make. For most homeowners it is the most important room in the house. It is used for cooking, eating, and gathering, and is typically a focal point in the home.
My 10 yr old daughter loves horses. I just primed, painted, and painted her bedroom. I hung a cute border (in the middle of the wall instead of top, her eye-level). Now, as I am attempting to put her furninture back into her pretty new room, it all covers the border!
Selling Our Home - What Should I Renovate?
We have a couple months before we put our home on the market. I am curious about what would be worthwhile to fix up in terms cost vs. reward when selling the home. Nothing in the house is horrible but we have old windows, ugly appliances, 15 year old carpet, probably could use some paint, kitchen and bathroom floor leave much to be desired and probably some other things I am forgetting. I am sure my realtor will have some ideas (when I get one) but I figured I would post here too. Generally speaking, if it doesn't help the selling price of the home, I want to avoid spending time and money on it. Anyone else been there before? Dean
Save Money On Home Improvement Projects
Many of us avoid home improvement projects due to their expense. Granted if you are contemplating a "second-story" addition to your home, or the construction of a new "game-room", then most likely you will need to hire a general contractor to complete this task. However, if you are interested in projects like painting a room, removing acoustic texture from the ceiling (I just did this), installing laminate flooring, wallpaper, landscaping, etc. then you may be able to accomplish the task(s) all on your own, or with minimal assistance.
Recycling Cement Blocks from Renovation
We are renovating a small home in the tropics of Qld. We are going to replace a falling wall with a window or door. In order to do this we have to remove the current wall which is made up of cement blocks, most will break during the demolition side, however having done this before (during summer!), I believe that there would be an easier, but more so, global friendly way to recycle these blocks in our garden.

Looking for Basement Remodeling Tips
My basement is old and gross. The ceiling is low and there are spider webs all over the place. I would like to turn my basement into a part of my home I don't mind going in. Any ideas how I can fix it up and get rid of the old, gross look. Thanks, Rhonda from Pennsylvania

Home Renovation Guide: Dealing with a Contractor
This article contains a simple list to follow when dealing with a home renovation.
So You've Decided to Finish Your Basement
When a family decides to finish a basement space, there are so many factors to consider it can seem overwhelming. What does your family want to achieve within the new basement? Are you looking for a play area, a family room, a work-out room, home theatre, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, wet bar, etc.? Do you have the square footage required to accomplish what you want? How do you get started, and how long will it take? How much will it cost, and is it worth the money? What if there's a huge beam in the center of you basement? Do you have to have a building permit? Do you have to remove the items you currently have stored in your basement?
Adding Wainscoting to Your Room Remodel
One of the hottest looks today (and yesterday!) is wainscoting. Whether painted or natural, it can add character to any room. It can also add durability to playroom or family room walls. Most home improvement stores have precut wainscoting in a variety of styles and colors.

Real estate sales might not be the most popular form of revenue this year, but it does feel good to know that some renovation costs are recovered during the resale of a home. In a poor economy people are more apt to renovate than relocate, but when the economy gains strength and homes go on the market, the owners may begin to wonder, "If I sink the money into renovations, am I really going to get that money back in a higher resale?
Removing The Texture From A Ceiling
Back in the fifties and sixties it was really popular to put a texture on ceilings called a popcorn ceiling. One of the remodeling shows I am a big fan of, gave instructions on how to remove this bumpy, ugly, hard to patch popcorn ceiling.
This budget remodel was the first project I have ever taken on and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Using the tips I've found here, for just under $2,000 I have a marvelous fashionable new kitchen.
Set the scene: your new home is beautiful. The kitchen's been remodeled, the living space is newly carpeted, and the bathroom has pristine green and pink tile. Green and pink tile? Yes, welcome to the bygone era of seashell colored bathrooms. If you're not seeing green and pink, you might be seeing powder blue. Yellow, maybe?
