Last year we decided that our living room needed some more windows to allow additional light to come in. We wanted 3 square windows to match another room in our house, but we wanted to see how it would look. After talking with the contractor about placement requirements, we located the studs and then taped out the window placement with painters tape. We left our wall like this for a few days to see how we liked it. We have since had the windows installed and we love them!
