Garden: Blessed with a Garden Helper
Look what I found sitting on my sunflower leaf! I smiled when I saw him there, as I ran to get my camera hoping he would still be there. When I got back he was, and he posed for this picture before he walked away in the direction of a bug.
Garden: Azalea for Mother's Day
Grandson Chris sent me this azalea, and he happened to be here when it was delivered. He was surprised, and then upset that it was red, because he had ordered the lavender one.
I saw this little one setting on a flower pot. I just had to get the camera, and get a shot of him.
Garden: Beauty by Any Name (Dandelion)
I know many will think why send a picture of that? As my mother used to say, weeds are just misplaced flowers, and just as beautiful.
Garden: Hen and Chicks Surprise
We had an early morning spring shower that left the Hen and Chicks with droplets of water. When the sun hit them, they shimmered like diamonds.
Garden: Green Figs (Colfax, LA)
Here in Louisiana the figs are setting, and are the most beautiful green. This variety is the Brown Turkey Fig. When the figs ripen in about a month, they will be the most gorgeous brown color with hints of pink and purple.
We've been having lots of grey days in Washington state lately, but they are great for taking pictures. I was lucky enough to catch this bee working hard at gathering pollen off this beautiful flower. I call this picture "Bee Still".
Garden: A Slaty Skimmer Female Dragonfly
I love walking in my garden with my camera. Resting on my day lily, was this beautiful dragonfly. Anyone else besides me like dragonflies? She stayed for awhile, and let me take quite a few pictures before she flew away.
Garden: First Morning Glory of the Year
I went outside with my camera like I do every morning to see what I can catch. It was a special day! The first morning glory of the season was open and happy. It was shining like the sun!
We love our Ca. poppies. Great Granddaughter was delighted that the seeds she planted came up. And was such a big surprise for her on Memorial day when they came for a BBQ.
Garden: Peonies from My Backyard
I cut these peonies because a thunderstorm was coming. I took this picture, because I think they are really beautiful. Hope you like them, too.
When I bought my house 25 years ago there was a small "wild" rose bush in the garden up against the house. Each year I would cut it back, and it would bloom a few roses. Each year it grows bigger.
Keeping Ants Away From Bird Feeder
My husband made us a moat for our hummingbird feeder to keep ants out of the nectar for just pennies! He cut a water bottle in half, drilled a hole in bottom just big enough to fit the coated wire that holds the feeder on the shepherds hook.
This Mock Orange is right outside our front door. I just love this Mock Orange when it is blooming. It has over a hundred blooms on it, and smells so good. As you can see by the picture of my car, the bush is huge.
This is a picture of some beautiful gladiolus from my Mom and Dad's backyard.
It was a beautiful sunny, spring day and our 4 year old granddaughter was visiting us, when she saw butterflies outside in our garden. I said, "Did you know that fairies and butterflies are secret friends?"
Garden: Mini Roses And Fountain
This is my new mini rose garden in the back yard. DH added a mini fountain and small solar lights to the area. We have a solar lighted umbrella and rockers added to face the little rose garden, all in containers.
Some nice seed saver on ThriftyFun sent me seeds several years ago. These sweet peas do not have a fragrance at all, but are great cut flowers in this lovely orchid pink color.
This rose has the color of 2 plants, yellow and pink. I think that is because it is too close to my red rose plant. It is beautiful though.
If you have to spray any type of bug spray to save or preserve your plants or flowers, add a few drops of Dawn dish detergent to the mixture and it will actually help the spray stick and work.
Scenery: Crocus In Snow (Oregon)
We had a late snowstorm last week. We didn't get a ton of snow but it was enough to cancel school for the kids. My husband took some photos in the morning. I thought this one turned out particularly well.
I was driving my boys to school this morning and saw these gorgeous dahlias in a neighbors yard. My wife and her sisters love dahlias so I stopped and took these photos for them.
Have you ever gathered seeds from wild lupine plants to sow in your garden and ended up with disappointing results? Stands of lupine are easy to establish this way, providing the conditions are right.
