In the 1950s I bought a new loaf bread pan and it had a recipe for "no rise rolls"; I made them every morning for breakfast, they were that easy. Somewhere along the many moves we have made since then, I've lost the recipe.
Sister Schubert's Parker House Rolls
This recipe is easy and produces an exact replica of the Sister Schubert rolls found in your grocery store.
Great roll recipe. Dissolve yeast in water. Melt shortening in milk in bowl. Add sugar. Cool to lukewarm. Mix in remaining ingredients. Let rise, covered, until doubled in bulk.
Stir hot water into mashed potatoes. Add salt, sugar, melted shortening. When cool, add eggs and yeast. Add flour. Make into dough. Knead well. Let rise for 2 hours in a warm place. Knead down.
Pour boiling water over margarine, brown sugar, salt and oatmeal. Let stand until lukewarm. Meanwhile, sprinkle yeast over warm water and stir until it's dissolved. Combine oatmeal mixture with yeast and beaten egg.
In a large bowl, combine 2 cups flour, yeast and salt. Add 2 cups warm water. Beat with electric mixer at low speed 30 seconds, scraping the sides of bowl constantly. Beat at high speed 3 minutes. With spoon, stir in as much remaining flour as possible.
Combine first 5 ingredients in saucepan. Heat to warm. stir together 4 cups flour and yeast in bowl. Add warm liquid and eggs. Beat at low speed of electric mixer 1/2 minute, scraping sides and bottom of bowl constantly.
Mix water, yeast, salt and sugar. Let stand 5 minutes. Stir in cake mix and beat. Stir in flour - will be sticky. Set in warm place. Let rise until double in bulk. Punch down. Use extra flour to handle enough. Roll out half of dough.
Heat milk and shortening until warm. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water; add milk mixture to sugar and salt. Add eggs and yeast. Add 4 cups flour; mix well. Add remaining flour. Turn out on floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic.
Sift dry ingredients together into bowl. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. Add buttermilk. Stir into dry ingredients, mixing well. Knead lightly on floured surface.
Recipes for Easy Rolls
Spread butter over bottom of 9 inch pie pan. Combine next 3 ingredients and sprinkle over butter. Cut biscuits into halves, placing in pie pan. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top. Bake at 425 degrees F for 12-15 minutes.
Mix well together: 1 1/2 cups flour, yeast, sugar, salt and seasoning. Heat milk, water and butter till warm (120-130 degrees F). Add to flour mixture. Add egg. Mix at low speed until moist. Beat 3 minutes at medium speed.
Spread a thin layer of margarine onto the rolls; sprinkle with garlic powder. Sprinkle Mozzarella cheese over top and cover; sprinkle Parmesan cheese lightly over top.
Combine first 3 ingredients. Dissolve yeast in warm water in large bowl; let stand 5 minutes. Stir in yogurt mixture. Add eggs and combine flour and salt; stir 2 cups into yogurt mix.
Pour water over sugar, shortening and salt. Cool to lukewarm and add yeast that has been softened in lukewarm water. Add egg; mix well. Add half of flour; beat smooth.
Scald milk, sugar, salt, margarine and water. Cool to lukewarm; add yeast and some flour, eggs and rest of flour. Knead. Grease bowl.
After mushrooms have been ground or chopped, place in dish towel and squeeze out most of moisture. Saute' mushrooms in butter. Sprinkle on flour, salt, lemon juice, Worcestershire and chives.
