decorated anniversary cakeThis frosting is a winner at family functions and parties. It has a rich, semi sweet flavor that can be controlled through the amount of powdered sugar used. Apply to cakes, cupcakes, sweet buns, brownies, and the list goes on. This great frosting can also be made ahead and placed in the refrigerator for up to a week, or in your freezer for a month. Thaw and stir when ready to use.

Use 8oz cream cheese at room temperature. Also, 6 tablespoons real butter( unsalted) at room temp also. Combine both of those into large bowl. Add 1 tsp vanilla. Mix it well. Add 4 cups of powdered sugar and use a hand mixer to mix well. You can also slowly add ( 1 tsp at a time) milk to bring to desired consistency. You want it thick but spreadable. you can also use more powdered sugar if want a bigger batch of frosting.

Just add cup at a time and then use tiny amounts of milk while mixing to obtain desired consistency. Depending on what type cake your making - dont be afraid to add things like zest of a lemon and squeeze a bit of juice into frosting. Can use orange also. I make a great banana cake and use this recipe and add 1 tsp lemon juice and zest entire lemon into frosting as mixing OR can zest on top when cake complete....
