2 large ripe yet firm bananas, cut into 1/2-inch slices
1/2 tsp. rum extract
vanilla ice cream
Directions:
Combine the brown sugar, butter, cream, and maple syrup in a small saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat for 4 to 5 minutes or until sauce is smooth.
Gently stir in bananas and heat through. Remove from heat and gently stir in the rum extract.
Make balls out of ice cream, Roll them into crushed cookies, and top with a cherry. Freeze these. Then put the following homemade sauce on them at time of serving (or chocolate syrup)
Ingredients:
1.5 cup confectioners sugar
1/2 cup oleo* (1 stick)
2 oz semi sweet chocolate (2 squares)
1 tsp vanilla
5 fl oz evaporated milk (small can)
*Oleo is an old fashioned brand of hydrogenated oil or margarine.
Steps:
Melt margarine; add sugar and chocolate.
Mix and bring to a boil, always stirring and never stopping stirring.
The next time you have ice cream, try making this yummy apple topping. It is the perfect way to liven up vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients:
1 Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored and thinly sliced into rings
2 tsp. butter or margarine
1/4 cup caramel or caramel-peanut butter apple dip
1/4 cup water
dash of cinnamon
Directions:
Cut apples slices into quarters. In large nonstick skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add apples, cook and stir until apples are crisp-tender. Stir in caramel dip, water and cinnamon.
Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Cook 2 minutes or until mixture is slightly thickened, stirring occasionally. Serve warm over ice cream. Most kids just love this!
