A favorite dessert topping is caramel sauce. Although there are several commercial brands available at the market, you may want to try making some for your own use or as a sweet gift for a friend or family member. This page contains recipes for caramel sauce.
This is great in a prebaked pie shell, ice cream topper or straight off the spoon!
Put unopened cans (my crock pot will hold two). Pour water until just covered. Put on lid. Set to low for 8 hours. Remove and place cans in refrigerator a few hours.

It is a very easy caramel sauce to make, to top gingerbread apple cakes, bread pudding and homemade rice puddings.
Cook pudding according to directions, but omit the three cups milk it calls for, and replace with the two cups water instead. Keep stirring till mixture bubbles.
Take off of stove and stir in vanilla and butter or margarine. Cover pot to keep mixture warm. Serve this sauce while still warm over, gingerbread apple cake, bread pudding, homemade rice pudding, or any other dessert of your choosing. Enjoy!

How do I keep my caramel sauce from sugaring?
By G Wilson
I have posted this once before but the easiest way to make caramel sauce (and I have never had it sugar) is to put an unopened can of sweetened condensed milk in a crock pot and completely cover with water during the whole time it is in there. Cook on low for 8 hours. Perfect caramel sauce every time!
