I call this Louie's chili as it was based off of my late dad's recipe when we were growing up. The only thing I changed was using V-8 juice instead of tomato juice. (V-8 didn't exist yet when we were kids).

Simple Chili

Cut up bacon; cook slightly, then set aside. Brown ground beef. Add other ingredients, after first draining and mashing tomatoes so they will blend with rest of ingredients.

I'm looking for a recipe for a chili type soup we ate in St. Augustine, Fl. Spanish Quarters. We used to go there on vacation and had this wonderful soup with homemade bread. I have tried to get it other places and have tried with trial and error, but can't get the spices just right. Can anyone help?
