Frugal News

By ThriftyFun.com Staff
Do you get a morning paper delivered? Having a paper delivered to your doorstep can cost you as much as $200.00 a year. Below are some ideas on how you can save money by finding your local news online.

Frugal News

For the first time in years we decided to stop getting the newspaper over the summer. At that time of year we weren't using our fireplace and don't read the paper that much. While not having the paper, we looked elsewhere for our news and found that not only can you find all local information online, you also can find some superior information and resources.

Local News: Depending on where you live, there is a good chance that you can find your local paper online, often in its entirety. Depending on the quality of the web design, reading your local paper online can be very enjoyable.

Local TV Listings: For some, the only reason to get the paper is for the TV listings. TV Guide has a great website for viewing your local listings for free.

Movie Listings: I found the online websites for movie times to be outstanding. You can easily locate all movies in your area based on your zip code and also find out information about the movies; reviews, run times, ratings, etc.

Classified Ads: Quite often, local papers have the same classifieds online that appear in their print newspaper. Additionally, many large sites, like Yahoo.com, have their own national classified sections.

Eliminating the daily newspaper and only finding news online isn't for everyone. But if you find that your local paper has a strong presence online, it could save you as much as $200.00 a year. It's a good way to offset the cost of your computer and internet access.

In 2009 lots of newspapers have been forced to go out of business, mostly because of people watching TV news or getting their news online. I guess we saved some trees.
