Does anyone know about some low cost alternatives to expensive spa (hot tub) chemicals? Also any cleaning ideas appreciated--especially filter cleaning. Thanks!

I maintain a two commercial pools and I use baking soda as PH up and Muriatic acid as PH down. the muriatic acid can be purchased at any hardware store but be carful with this stuff it will burn clothes, metal and skin (the baking soda will neutralize the muriatic acid), soo keepsome handy when using tha acid.

Here is all I know that I use Baking Soda as down. I have not found any way to raise the Ph with anything but Bromide but it can be bought at Walmart pretty cheaply.

I am on the same mission, I heard most spa chemicals are only standard household chemicals packaged and marked up in cost. Anyway, I am trying to get the MSDS for each chemical that I want to replace. Like filter cleaner, PH, Down, Activate etc. The store you buy this from is suppose to have on hand. Good luck

Hi,we have a problem with very hard water with tons of iron and copper so the filter turns brown almost instantly,we have found soaking the filter using Amway's Crystal Bright Powder (dishwasher powder)and very hot water in a large bucket then rinsing well brings it right back to pure white. We have done this for the last 15 years or more and it works GREAT.
