We had an earthquake here in the Pacific Northwest, right in the middle of getting the "Clipper" ready to go on Wednesday. We made it through without any damage or injury but it was scary. Thanks to those of you that have written to check on us.

It reminds us of the importance of being prepared for emergencies. It is easy to become complacent but no matter where you live, there are potential hazards: tornados, hurricanes, flooding, drought, blizzards, earthquakes, or forest fires.

Make sure you are prepared for the most likely hazards in your area and have an emergency plan for your family. We could not call out and others could not call us. Even today the phone lines are clogged. It is always good to find alternate methods of communications or meeting places. And also, if you know of a neighbor who lives alone, it's good to check on them to make sure they are okay. If your phone is out, theirs probably is as well and they will appreciate your gesture.

We will be discussing this in the next few weeks so if you have any emergency preparedness ideas make sure you send them in or post them online.

Good Morning, I am always a day or two behind. Just wanted to drop a line to let you know that I am very happy to know you are OK after that Earthquake you all suffered. Please let your other newsletter writers that I subscribe to that you are all in my prayers.

The only suggestion I have, my house burned down and I lost so much, is to be sure to have copies of photos. They are one thing that cannot be replaced. Being an only child and only grand-child it is impossible to find copies as who else had them? Most of what was lost was of my great grandparents, great aunt's uncles, cousins etc. I had been lax about getting names on them and that is what I was trying to do at the time of the fire and now they are all gone.

What I tell everyone I know, put a copy of the picture somewhere so it is not lost forever. - ELiz.
