Request: Getting Rid of Warts
Archived on 10/22/2009
I am 17 years old. Recently when I went and stayed with my best friend I noticed that I started getting a wart on my big toe. So of course I picked at it. She is the only person I've been around that has warts, but she said hers were "viral".
I've tried the whole 9 yards with the freeze off product; it doesn't work. I now have that one on my big toe, I have another on my 3rd toe and also one between my big and second toe. I believe they're seed warts, but I'm not sure.
I want to get rid of them. Help me, please. They are so annoying, big time. If you have any suggestions I would really like to know. Thanks.

RE: Getting Rid of Warts
You need to see a podiatrist because they can only be removed by surgery or acid treatment which requires several treatments to remove the warts. These type of warts spread and become quite painful when left to grow bigger. They are contagious and you should wear socks on your feet and don't go barefoot as someone else can get it.
When I was in high school I came in contact with the wart after gym session and having to shower. I went barefoot and it wasn't long thereafter they showed up. So, keep the tub and shower cleaned after you use it. (08/07/2009)

RE: Getting Rid of Warts
Try duck tape, no joke. Rap the tape around your wart and reapply it every time you shower or in the morning. I had gotten warts from my older brother and I used duck tape, and they went away in about a month. (08/07/2009)

RE: Getting Rid of Warts
Does your family have medical insurance? If so go into a dermatologist. I had mine frozen off. The doctor did it right in his office, then and there and they were gone for good. It doesn't hurt at all.
If you have no health insurance, get out the phone book and look up "Dermatologists" and call each of them and talk to the receptionist and tell her that you have 3 warts between your toes you need removed (or whatever) and tell her you have no insurance, then ask her how much it will cost. Each doctor charges a different price (that's why you should call around). It will cost you somewhere between $50 - $100, but it will be well worth the money, believe me! Sometimes doctors charge people with insurance more.
My father had planter's warts and they grow deep into his feet and had to be removed surgically. Have your warts treated as soon as you can just in case they are this type and so you won't spread them to others. Some warts are contagious and some aren't. "Seed" warts can sometimes be passed from one person to another or from one body part to another. Always wash your hands really good after you touch them.
As far as "do it yourself" wart removals, you have already tried the best product on the market. If I were you, I'd try it again. If your warts weren't between your toes, I would recommend you try duct tape. Some say it works, and some say it doesn't. Google "duct tape warts cure" and you'll get all kinds of responses. No one knows for sure why Duct Tape works for some people, some say it's the glue in the tape, others say it's because it prevents air from getting to it. But It might be pretty hard to get the tape to stick between your toes!
Remember, your warts may be contagious, always wear flip-flops or sandals when ever you go into someone's shower or a gym or swimming pool. This way you'll not spread them. Also, so you don't get any fungus or other nasty things always wear flip-flops whenever you go where others go barefoot (like pools or gym showers). (08/07/2009)

I agree with seeing the podiatrist. Warts can spread all over your body and are nothing to fool around with. (08/11/2009)

RE: Getting Rid of Warts
My question is, "Have you told your parents, and if so why haven't they taken you to a doctor?" and especially since you mention that they have spread :-( Your family doctor can easily 'properly freeze' them and they will be gone so there really is no need to spend extra for a specialist, but if you or your parents feel the need for a specialist you should see a dermatologist because it is a skin virus and not a foot virus requiring a podiatrist. And, I hope, your friend's parents take or have taken her to the doctor, too! (08/11/2009)

RE: Getting Rid of Warts
Two of my daughters had their plantar warts burned off by a doctor, the warts came right back and they did never want to go back to the doctor, so I told them to rub lavender oil on the warts several times each day. Then one of the girls spent a day at the beach and lost all her warts! So the other one took several (3?) foot baths with Epsom salts and followed with the lavender oil and that was that for her warts! (08/11/2009)

RE: Getting Rid of Warts
I had developed a wart on the side of the bridge of my nose, very near my eye, so couldn't use any over-the-counter remedies. Believe it or not, I found the vinegar/duct tape treatment online and tried it. Pulled a little cotton off the end of a Q-Tip, dipped it in vinegar and secured it on the side of my nose with a small piece of clear duct tape. I changed it daily, but kept it on 24/7. Yes, it looked strange, but I swear it worked. Took about three weeks, and not only is the wart gone, but I don't even have a scar. This was a couple of years ago, and it never came back. Try it! RE: Getting Rid of Warts
I would second the vinegar, but use "organic" vinegar with the "mother" in it, which can be purchased at a health food store. Soak a tiny piece of cotton ball, put it on the wart covered by a Band-aid, and leave it on overnight. Do it nightly. Good luck. (08/11/2009)

RE: Getting Rid of Warts
Ashley: After trying every product on the market, I finally searched the Internet and learned about using apple cider vinegar on the wart...and it worked! Simply apply Vaseline around the wart with a Q-tip, so the vinegar won't be applied anywhere but where you want it. Then use a tiny piece of gauze or cotton square or even a tiny piece of cotton. Saturate it with the vinegar and apply with a Band-Aid. Re-apply as necessary (I usually did it twice a day). Just keep doing it, and it will work!

Squeeze the juice from an eggplant on it, then cover it with a band aid. Do this once a day after bathing and it should be gone in a week. (08/11/2009)

RE: Getting Rid of Warts
I had warts on my feet for over 6 yrs. I tried everything. Banana peels, aspirin, over the counter remedies, duct tape, and anything I found on the net that I thought might work (nothing worked).
I then started to see a doctor who would burn them with a laser. In conjunction with the laser burning and liquid nitrogen treatments, and a year of weekly visits, no luck there either. I finally stopped going for treatments and did nothing to the warts. They went away finally by themselves.
Try whatever you think, but in the end, they go when they are good and ready. (08/12/2009)

RE: Getting Rid of Warts
The doc actually needs to remove the 'mother' wart (the first one) and the rest may go away (based on experience).
Considering the fact that you have warts, please know that you do not have an inborn immunity and need to find out what to do to prevent re-occurrence. (08/12/2009)

RE: Getting Rid of Warts
Try using duct tape. It cuts off the air to the wart and it will kill it. Make sure that no air can get to the wart and replace the tape if it gets wet or the seal is broken (08/13/2009)

My husband had warts really bad on his hands and feet. His grandmother told him to rub castor oil on his hands and feet 1 time a day for 3 wks, then 1 time a day for 2wks. Then just forget about it. He did and the warts were gone. I think a lot of the stress on warts is the thinking about them. Don't stress so much and I hope it helps you. Bless the home remedies. (08/16/2009)

Burned off my wart on thumb
I have/had a wart on my thumb for 5+ years that it halfway under my nail. I tried over the counter freezer, urgent care freeze, dermatology laser (6 painful times) and recently had it burned off, still healing. The burned off procedure better work. It was by far the most excruciating pain.
Remember, this is on my thumb with many nerve endings. Dr. said that finger tips and around the mouth are the worst, but areas like scalp and back are virtually pain free. The numbing solution administered by a needle was the painful part. It literally felt like someone drove a railroad into my thumb. After 10 seconds, it went away and I watched Dr. burn cut and remove. Sore still. Hopefully this is it. (06/03/2008)

RE: Getting Rid of Warts
Crush up aspirin mix it with water (enough to make a paste) spread it on the wart cover with a band aid over night and put a sock on so it doesn't come off.
That is the only thing that worked. I've had them for a very long time and it took about a few weeks. It's awesome. Now I don't have any. And I can show off my feet. Try it on any wart I'm sure it will work. My mom used it on her forehead and I used it on my feet. Now our warts on gone. (07/13/2008)
RE: Getting Rid of Warts
I think everyone should try duct tape. Everyone is saying so many different remedies, and it makes it hard what to follow. But duct tape is the only thing, that worked for me and I've suffered from mild warts in the past.
Here's what to do: make sure the surface is dry and put a piece of duct tape around the wart. If you want, I put a band aid over that to help it and make it look more normal. Leave it on for 6 days and then remove it and soak the wart(s) in warm water for a few minutes. Scrub down the dead skin around warts(s) with an emery board and let it dry all night. Finally reapply the duct tape and do this for a few days. Mine went away in only a few times. (07/26/2008)

RE: Getting Rid of Warts
The easiest way to get rid of a wart or warts, is to use clear nail polish. The nail polish coats the wart so that the wart can't go anywhere. Warts survive off of air, that's why people use duct tape. Duct tape works, but it works in only 6 to 8 days. Nail polish (the clear ones) works in about 3 or 4 days, it worked for me. I had 3 of them and they're gone. Use this formula to help, it's painless and easy. (02/19/2009)

RE: Getting Rid of Warts
I had two on my "driving finger" ...my left hand middle finger LOL...I couldn't get rid of them with anything! One was on the middle crease and the other at my fingertip. I tried the burning sprays at the store, wart removal stuff...duct tape...everything! I finally just gave up and thought I'd just deal with it later because they seemed to get bigger every time I would try to rid myself of them. Well, one day I came across something on the internet that reminded me of my warts. When I examined my finger they were gone. They had left without me even noticing. I know they are caused by a virus, I have been eating healthier also. I don't know if this contributed to it or not, but I guess I got lucky! (01/05/2007)

I am 82 now, and when I was very young I had over 100 warts on my one leg from knee down. An older lady told me to use Castor oil. I carried a small bottle with me to school and all over. On school bus I would rub it on warts. every time I had time I would use it. about 2 weeks after on bus I was going to rub it on warts. No warts. and never had any more. My family uses the same remedy through the years. It works. (01/05/2007)

RE: Getting Rid of Warts
I've had success with the duct tape method--I had a big wart on my hand that didn't go away even after two tries with one of the over-the-counter freezing products, so I decided to try the duct tape treatment that I had recently heard about (there's even a study published in a family practice journal saying that it's effective). The wart went away within about three weeks using this treatment. Not sure how well it would work for plantar warts though as the tape might have a hard time staying on a sweaty foot. (01/05/2007)

RE: Getting Rid of Warts
Hi. I was just wondering. I'm trying to get rid of my warts as well, and I'm scared to try the freezing off method, since my skin is very very sensitive.
Not to sound stupid, but what is Silver Collide? It was mentioned in the notes above, and i looked up that disease as well and it freaked me out.
So what would be the safest way to get rid of them? I also read that putting clear nail polish on the wart helps? Is that true? (01/08/2007)

My son (age 22) has 2 warts on his nose so applying something like duct tape isn't an option. He'd like them gone before his wedding in May. Should he just spend the money and go to a dermatologist to have them burned off? (01/09/2007)

RE: Getting Rid of Warts
I have a wart on the weirdest part of my hand, its right near the knuckle so a banana peel would slide off even with duct tape. I like the potato method. After I put potato juice on it, I would put duct tape over it. It was working pretty well. What I would try though is vodka. Vodka is made of potato's and also has alcohol in it which I believe makes it stronger. (01/10/2007)

I have to seed warts in the middle of my right pointer finger. One day I got so frustrated with them I simply took a knife and cut one out. It bled, a lot, so I just put a band-aid on it. After the scab came off only a little bit remained, but it's still there. I don't recommend doing what I did.

omg I have the worst problem. I have had warts all my life, no joke. Once I get rid of one they come back. I have tried cutting them. I now have one in between my ring finger, another next to it and then one on the outside of my index finger and on my palm and on my ring finger nail. I have used that freeze away stuff for over 4 years and it doesn't work. (08/22/2007)

RE: Getting Rid of Warts
For common warts, the kind you get on your hands, use nail polish. It really works. I had gotten warts on my hand one summer and they quickly spread because I suffer from dry, cracked skin. I tried the duct-tape method, but because I'm crazy serious about hand washing I couldn't get it to stay stuck. I tried freezing, store-bought wart acid, and in frustration tried cutting one of the larger ones off with scissors and then applying the acid(DO NOT TRY, it doesn't work and HURTS). I was embarrassed to shake peoples hands and was tired of explaining to kids about the "little bumps" on my fingers. Finally, one night I applied regular old nail polish, because it was a peach color I thought it would hide the warts. I felt nothing, and I peeled it off a couple days later to discover the tops of the warts were shrivelling.
Intrigued, I continued to apply nail polish, clear or colored both seemed to work, it stayed on my skin for 3 or more days at a time and the only sensation I felt was occasionally a tingling as I first painted it on. It completely got rid of my warts and 2 years later I haven't had a single re-occurrence. I've not tried this on plantar warts so I don't know if it will work, and for the larger common warts it may take a few weeks; but clear nail polish beats wearing duct-tape in public! (10/24/2007)

I had a large wart on one hand and a smaller wart on the other hand. I'd heard that taping banana peel onto the wart (the flesh side of the peel on the wart) and leaving for about 3-4 days would kill the wart. So, I tried it and it REALLY worked! When I took the bandaid off the peel was black and my skin was all pruny, but within half a day the wart had 'dropped off' and I just had normal flat skin there again. I have now been wart-free for the last 4 months. I would recommend this treatment to anyone. It works!! :) (05/12/2006)

RE: Getting Rid of Warts NO SILVER COLLIDE!
DO NOT Use The Silver collide mentioned above...
Here is why... look up the disorder 'Argyria'... it is a permanent discoloration of the skin that is a result from using this product which is also commonly found in diet pills. This product will turn your skin a bluish gray - similar to that of a dead person, and scientists are able to actually see silver flecks in the skin under a microscope.
Some people this will happen to with prolonged use other it will happen to more quickly... it's NOT the best remedy. I would take the warts over looking like death warmed over... search for images they are horrific. It builds up in the system so this is not something that should be used often or ever!

| Garlic |
05/13/2005 |
| Go with garlic! I had a wart almost an inch in diameter on the heel of my foot, which didn't go away with wart meds, and was too big to get frozen off. (Hence, it just kept growing, since nothing stopped it.) Finally I started taping slices of raw garlic over top, and left it on all day. In no time, the wart "died" and new healthy skin took its place. The only drawback is garlic breath. That was 5 years ago, and I haven't had one since. |

| My friend had a whole slew of warts on the back of her hand. Someone told her to squeeze the juice of fig leaves on the warts (this is like a milky white sap that comes our of fig leaves if you tear them).
She said it would itch a little, but after a while of continued use, the warts diminished. If you look really closely, you can see where some of the bigger warts used to be, but to the untrained eye- the warts are gone!.
Good luck! |

| This is a tip for Luna who has a wart on her hand. Warts are contagious and they come from contact with the virus for warts. You need to get something at the drug store that will "burn" them off. While this is happening do not come in contact with anyone in the area where the wart has been.
It is easy to see the Dr. for this, too.

| Try soaking your foot in Baking Soda and water once a day. Get a large package of baking soda and put about a cupful in a pan large enough to soak your foot. Add hot water and keep dipping the part of your foot in (the part with the wart) until you can stand the heat and leave it in there.
This worked for me. I heard about it from my husband's grandmother many years ago.
I had plantars warts all over the bottom of one foot and this got rid of them. It only took a few weeks and they were gone. I'd had them spreading for about a year.
