Cardboard Frame Stand
This is the stand I created to replace the stand that broke on the back of a decorative plaque that I wanted to display. I simply cut a 2 inch wide strip of heavy-duty cardboard, making it twice the length I needed, plus about 3 inches extra to fold over on the bottom, long. Then, I simply folded it in three places, taped it together, and then taped it to the back of the plaque. It works like a charm and is much studier than the little stick stand that came with it.

Bella (Husky/German Shepherd)
Bella 2 1/2 months old and a Husky/German Shepherd. I got Bella from a friend, who was rescued from abusers. While in the womb, abusers kicked mommy puppy. She lost many puppies. When born, they kicked her to. My friend saved the mom and puppies, and found homes. I finally got Bella around 2 months old, learning she has a hernia because of the abuse. It doesn't hurt her, thank God.
Bella loves to search and find things as well as playing with her bear. She loves to chase things and is not scared of a little dirty water. Bella loves to be outside. She loves the cats. She also love to swim. After a long day of having fun, she loves to enjoy a belly rub and a little relaxation music by Lifehouse. Any other music artist, she'll run away to sleep under my bed.
While we are half asleep on my bed, we tend to share some "bacon" together. She also loves to sleep with her bear. Pics are in my profile. (she gets little pieces of bacon bacon, the doggie snack. and I get real bacon). She is 2 1/2months old and knows how to sit, give paw, stay and come. She is potty trained. She is very, very smart

Juju (Sun Conure)
This is our beautiful bird, Juju. We think she is about 5 years old. She is a Sun Conure. Conures come from South and Central America. We got her about 4 years ago as a rescue. Her former owners didn't realize how noisy and demanding conures can be. They also had no idea how to care for her. Her diet consisted of salted sunflower seeds, froot loops, and chex mix and she was never allowed out of her cage.
She loves to chew things! Anything from her toys to your shirt if you are not paying attention. She also likes to burrow under your shirt or blanket and hide. She is a funny and loving pet to most of our family. Unfortunately, some experience in her former home has given her a dislike of young boys, so she is often aggressive to our son. Please learn about any animal you are thinking of getting to be sure they are a good fit for your home and family!

Save Plastic Lids for Toddler Toys
I did this when my kids were small, the youngest is now 32. I did it for my older grandkids, and I am now doing it for the younger grandkids and greatgrandkids. I have saved the colored plastic lids off of various bottles, such as mayonnaise, peanut butter, etc. Lids have to be too big to fit in a young ones mouth. I have a couple metal ones but most are plastic. I keep them in a drawstring bag in basket I use as a toy box for when the kids visit. They are good to teach colors, to count, to stack like blocks, to pretend, kids favorite is to pretend we are at a restaurant and the lids are food. Put little one between two larger ones and you have a sandwich, etc. Their imagination can run wild. So much fun with no additional expense. The amount of enjoyment for all in endless.
Source: Just me and my kids.
By Knitter926 from Bloomington, IL
Editor's Note: As Knitter926 mentioned, make sure that the lids are too large to be swallowed by children under 3 years old.

Product Review: Bosch Front Loading Washer
I bought the Bosch 300 front-loading machines and would like to inform others to beware of this machine. It is less than one year and the pump malfunctioned. I am completely annoyed with this machine.
It has no signal off button so you get to hear the beep for at least an hour if you don't turn off the washer dial after it runs. Bosch uses suppliers out-of-state, I have to sit here for over 2 weeks waiting for a defective pump to arrive from 1800 miles away because Bosch is too cheap to have one stored locally for their customers.
I have two boys in diapers which means food stains/sour milk on clothes. Bosch should be buying us all new clothes since everyone's clothing has to sit still for over 2 weeks with stains settling in. And no, I don't have family nearby to just go do our laundry. Had to go to laundromat already which was VERY inconvenient and expensive at $3.75/load.
Bosch is about as great as GM has been with cars-poor customer service, low-quality parts/defective equipment, and yet has the audacity to charge a pretty penny for their machines. We had a cheaper brand in our old house and NEVER had to have repairs.
Bosch execs need to quit being so cheap and think about who BUYS their machines. We should not have had a failed part in under one year and when a part does fail, the customer should have the part by NEXT DAY mail. Obviously, the Bosch execs have their laundry cleaned by drycleaners or maids so why worry about the rest of us "regular" people? Your own technicians are making fun of you!
Also, for anyone buying front loading machines, watch out for the Bosch dryer-the lint filter is SO sensitive that you can get an error message if you don't thoroughly wash it out. It collects a film on the 300 model that won't come off no matter what you use to clean it-and soap/water or mild cleansers do not work. Front loaders are being made like computerized cars, everything is under "sensing" which causes unnecessary error messages.
Again, like cars, you can't just open the hood and fix the parts yourself, you have to wait for the Tech (like a dealership shop) to disconnect the sensing parts so you can remove pieces. I watched the tech do his job (which he didn't prefer) and I could have EASILY fixed the problem but he said you can't cheat and make the machine work because if something goes wrong before the part arrives the customer would be at fault.
In the mean time, good luck with all the stain ridden clothes and I suppose our boys can just wear their diapers to leave the house. For the public, don't buy the Bosch 300 set. I can't stand either machine! If they were MADE like true commercial washers/dryers, they should LAST for 15-20 years and have no defects. Unfortunately, these companies realized that they could turn the popularity of front-loaders into a marketing blast and get everybody who believes in the power of the laundry mat's machines to buy into their lower quality machines. First they take your money, then they take your sanity : )

Get Tips From Locals Through Freecycle
With having my boyfriend in the military and recently moving to a new city, we were looking for frugal (but fun) activities. I joined the local Freecycle network and got tips and ideas from local residents. Not only have we gotten great ideas on fun things to do, I've also gotten a free lawnmower and some much needed household items!
I realized the best place to get information is from the people who live here :) We've visited museums, parks, gotten great tips on where to go sight-seeing and have a free concert in the city to go to this weekend!

Cover Pet Dishes With Press And Seal
You don't need to wash another messy pet dish!
Who likes the job of cleaning nasty wet pet food from their pet's dishes? With five previously homeless kitties, it was a struggle to keep their dishes clean, for cleanliness, their health, and insect control.
*Mind, I don't work for the Glad company. (don't I wish). :)
This is truly the most labor saving tip we've stumbled across! My husband discovered how our four footed friends can have clean dishes with no mess and no hassle!
- Start with a clean DRY pet dish.
- Using Glad Press n Seal. (the clear wrapping plastic with a smooth side and a sticky side.) Only because I haven't seen another product like it yet.
- Tear off approximately enough to fill your pet's dish you want enough to fit inside and over the sides a bit. Of course, there will be some overlap, as the dish is round, and the paper is square or rectangular, but that's okay, in fact it's good to have a bit of wrap over the sides of the bowl.
- Press the wrap to the dish down thoroughly and completely. Neatness doesn't count, and you'll soon learn how much is enough. It will stick to the dish, and leave a clean sanitary surface for your pet to eat from.
Presto! Your pet has a clean dish!
Depending upon the food, and how much they ate,the wraps often last two meals before I change them, often only needing to wipe with a paper towel, as the wrap doesn't come loose until you remove it.
CLEAN UP - was never easier, and your hands don't even get dirty!
This wrap makes for a self contained, odor free, disposal unit too! Loosen wrap from the four corners and toss.
If your pet left food, it will be in center as you lift it with the plastic out of the bowl. Wrap food tightly in it's own plastic "bag" twist and the sticky side will hold your compact waste food together!
You now have a sealed baggie with the old food inside, which won't smell in your garbage or draw flies!
* If moisture builds in the actual bowl from time to time with a slight odor after you've changed wraps a few times, all you need is to wipe the dish with a paper towel and baking soda, rinse, *dry well*, and apply your press and seal again before meal time.
Good luck, I hope this helps someone else and their beloved pets!

Tips To Avoid Wrapping Paper Waste
My family thinks I am crazy when it comes to wrapping paper. One of my biggest pet peeves is when they cut out a small section and toss the roll back into the bin. then the remaining "tail" gets snagged and ripped and it ends up getting cut off anyway and thrown away; or worse, ends up tearing more paper and wasting more than they used in the first place. I have gotten them in the habit of measuring the package, cutting off the whole width of paper and then cutting the length that they need.
I buy wrapping paper on sale, so there are a lot of patterns in the bin at a time. Once the paper roll has been opened, I loosen the paper on the roll by twisting the paper backwards and pull the tube out. then I wind the remaining paper tighter by holding the paper on the inside with one finger and rolling the paper back until it is slightly smaller than the tube. I insert the paper into the tube and roll the paper back the opposite way to make it tight to the tube. I roll the scraps and place them inside the tube as well.
I use a small scrap to cover the bottom end because I store my paper in a vertical organizer . I write on the outside of the tube at the top what the paper is "kids b-day", "over the hill", "wedding", "baby", etc.
Now if there is a small package, everyone knows to check the inside of the rolls and it may save them time if there is a small piece they can use already waiting.

Repel Houseflies With Bags Of Water
Bags of water DO repel common houseflies!
This is resurrecting a topic that's been posted here by others, but I've tried this hint and I'm really impressed.
You see, when I bought my property last year, I "inherited" 2 semi-feral cats who, since, have had litters that then had litters, and so on. Well, the newest little guys have taken to hanging around my side porch, where my kitchen door is. And for the last week, I seemed to be surrounded by flies every time I used this door, flies that follow me in, creating another nuisance. It took a few days before I realized that the kittens were pooing just outside the door, in the corner.
So I put a litter box there the other day, and they are using that. Still, it's too close to the door until I can begin to move it slowly away. The flies, meanwhile, continued to swarm.
Last night, after having read about the water in a bag tip, I suspended a plastic bag half-full of water from my doorknob, using a laundry "?"-clip. This morning, only 1 or 2 flies greeted me. Hurray!
Though I love to know how things work, the point is, the bag of water works for me. Of course, whether it will continue to work remains to be seen. Still, I can now use my kitchen door without fear of being besieged by flies.

Refrigerate Jar Overnight to Remove Labels
I made an alarming discovery today quite by accident. I am an compulsive recycler so I save all my spaghetti sauce jars. I use the same brand all the time so they match. Yes I use them for drinking for hubby and me. I have decent glasses but these jars are sturdy.
A few weeks ago one of our sons went grocery shopping with DH, and was helping him put things away. He didn't know where the jars of sauce went so he stuck them on the door of the fridge.
Since I am also frugal with time and effort I left them there. I got one out today to use and found that the label was loose. It only took seconds to remove. Yea! I had been placing them in the sink with a wet cloth around them till it soaked loose. Sometimes it would take hours. I'll be keeping them in the fridge from now on. An overnight stay in the fridge might work for any jar labels you have.

Healthier Baby Food
When making homemade baby food, I use our own homegrown veggies. I then cook the veggies a little till soft and puree it in the blender. Then I portion out servings in ice cube trays. Freeze till solid and pop into freezer bags for later use. Then all I have to do is put out the portion I need for a couple of days in a container in the fridge. A lot less work and cheaper than buying baby food.

Tips For New College Students
Familiarize yourself with any paperwork or guidelines given to you by your professors.
Be certain to introduce yourself to any T.A.s or professors as classes can be quite large and being recognizable to your teachers can pay off, if you need help or if you are being graded on class participation.
Sign up for any study groups for the courses you are taking. This will give you a networking group with whom you can contact if you miss a class or become confused.
Most schools offer free or low cost tutors. Get one before you fall behind. You can always stop a tutor if you get caught up or had a minor problem. If you wait to long they may not be able to catch you up.
Set a study time in your dorm room or apt. and let everyone know not to bother you.
Turn off all chat, social networking sites, cell phones and other distractions during your study time. Allow yourself breaks during this time so you don't become stressed or bored.
Make sure you get ample sleep the night before quizzes and tests. People score so much better rested.
Don't overload your course schedule with more then you can handle. Your GPA is important, don't come in lower then you have to just because you try to rush through your college years.
Remember this is not high school, no one feels like it is their responsibility to help you get things done, show up for class, turn assignments in on time or call your parents if you aren't doing so well. You and only you are responsible for making your grades.
Finally let yourself enjoy learning. Absorb and relish everything that being a college student has to offer.

Planning the Date for Your Yard Sale
I am not sure about the yard sale etiquette, but have been needing to have one for a long time now. Every time I want to, the weather says the weekends aren't looking good (even though they turn out okay). Then I forget until a weekday. I don't work, so I was just wondering if it was okay to have a yard sale during the week?

What breed is my dog? Maybe a Golden Kuvasz? He is 4 years old. I found him when he was 8 months old outside of my house. At first he seemed to be a Golden or Labrador but now I I think that his face is like that of a White Kuvasz. However he cannot be a pure bred because he is small, so I would like your opinion.

I'm considering installing a copper kitchen sink. Would I need to have copper faucet as well? Does anyone have pros or cons re: a copper sink?

Cat With Eye Discharge
Can anyone help with cat eye discharge? I have a new cat, he was fine until one week after adoption from the shelter. He has greenish eye discharge. I have taken him to the vet twice.
The things I have tried: antibiotics, eye antibiotic ointment, and keeping it clean. The vet also did an eye stain/scan to make sure there were no injuries, none seen. This has been going on 3 weeks, no other symptoms (no abrasion, bulges, sneezing, and loss of appetite).
