Fall Clematis Container Gardening

I love gardening. I have been planting a lot more perennials lately as we are retired and gone quite a bit during growing season. I also do a lot of container gardening. Hope you like my pictures. The flowers on the fence is one plant. It is a Fall Clematis. Very hardy and smells wonderful.

Wally (Shar Pei/Border Collie)

Wally will be 2 years old on March 28. He is 1/2 shar-pei, 1/2 border collie. My daughter owned his Mom so I was there to deliver him. His most favorite thing is to torment me (lol.)

Last september, I was home alone. I passed out in the backyard. When I came too I was so weak I couldn't get up by myself. Wally was standing right beside so I tried using him for support. He locked his legs and stood very still. He even helped steer me to the house. I was wobbling all over the place, so he would change sides pressing against my legs. I know service dogs do this all the time, but Wally doesn't even know what sit means lol!

Today's Tips

Finding Free 800 Numbers for Companies

Never pay your phone company to get a telephone number again by dialing 411. Now you can dial 1-800-free-411 with no charge. It is paid for by businesses and we don't need god knows how many phone books anymore. You can still get 1-800 numbers toll free.

Just dial 1-800-555-1212. This is for toll free numbers only. Happy dialing.

Sticky Car Door

If you have a car door that doesn't want to close right, use WD40. If you have a sticky door lock and no graphite (The two don't mix, use one or the other. Graphite is preferable.) WD40 will work in a pinch!

Peeling Garlic

The rubber grippers used to open jars are also used to peel garlic! I take a clove and sandwich it between two rubber openers, or fold one in half. Give it a few rubs on the counter and presto, the skins fall of easily!

Orange Leaves for Phlegm

If ever you have trouble with phlegm in your chest and you just can not bring it up by coughing, get yourself some orange leaves, 5-6 per liter of water. Just place the leaves into a pot or jug and pour boiling water over them. Let them cool, remove leaves and drink a glass morning and night. You can drink it either warm or cold. You will be surprised just how quick your chest will clear. It has a weak orange taste.

Preheating Bowls and Plates

I always microwave my husband's plates or bowls to heat them as he eats slow being he's disabled and it helps to keep his food warm longer.

Wedding Photography for LESS

Contact your local colleges' Audio Visual department and see if you can send an email to the group (A secretary will usually send it for you) of students in the photography program about photographing your wedding!

Usually the fees will be at least half of what a "Professional" photographer will charge, and a lot of the students have experience shooting weddings and can show you their work!

Cleaning Metal

Do you have metal that needs cleaning, brass boxes, hair clips, ear rings? Try wiping it down with rubbing alcohol. This breaks up any oil gathered from handling. Then use your regular metal polish and an old sock. Your metal will sparkle.

Jelly in Squeeze Bottles

It works really well to put your jellies into small plastic squeeze bottles. That way you can just squeeze a small amount onto your toast without the sticky mess that you often get by just scooping it out of the jars.

Lime Leaves for Flavor

Did you know that you can pick the leaves of a Lime tree and pour boiling water over them let it cool down and then freeze them into ice cubes? You can use this when ever you need to have a lime taste. Very good for Stir-frys.

Circuit Breaker Won't Switch On or Off

I plugged in a vacuum cleaner in the living room and had other things going (TV, etc.) and blew the circuit. I unplugged everything and tried to re-set the circuit breaker (switch to off then back to on position). However, the switch will not switch completely to the off or on position. I can move the switch in either direction, but not enough for it to stay there. It goes right back to the middle. Can someone tell me if there is anything else I can try, or does thia mean I have to pay to have an electrician come in and repair this? Many thanks in advance!

Pineapple Dessert

I am looking for a dessert my mother used to make many years ago. I don't know the name, but it has a graham cracker crust and cream cheese, crushed pineapple and I believe it had eggs also. Does anyone have a recipe? Thanks so much!
