Rate It: Jellybeans are expensive when you only need one color, except black. And the kids already get enough candy at parties. So I made 25 carrots out of clear party bags (taped at the bottom corners) filled with Cheetos and tied with green Christmas ribbon (the kind already curled for gift bows). My daughter will take these to school for her second grade Easter party.

I've been organizing and reusing items as much as possible. I have a laminated white cabinet made of particle board with holes drilled along the inside for shelves but the shelf pins I have didn't seem to work. I went looking for some slightly smaller and couldn't find any and I didn't want to chance trying to make the holes larger. So I found some metal screws just the right size and was able to put a shelf in it. This holds my daughters cake decorating supplies nicely. I love figuring out unique solutions for problems (I raised 9 children and it was absolutely necessary). Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf71254132.tip.html

Rate It: How many of you have extra medicine dispensers. The cup kind and the syringe kind? I have two young children so I have a lot. I have been letting them play in the tub with the extras and one day it hit me that I could use them to dispense shampoo and conditioner as well as meds. I use the syringe for my son and put about 1/2 tsp. in it and he just squeezes it onto his hair when he shampoos. I put my daughter's in the cups since she had longer hair and need more shampoo. Once she had dumped it I tell her to put a little water in it and swish it around to get all the shampoo or conditioner out. This way they feel like big kids and can wash their own hair with minimal help and I don't go through as much shampoo and conditioner. Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf51313404.tip.html

Rate It: Have a UPS to Protect Your Computer from Power Surges Regarding surge protector power strips and computers, please be aware that a nano rated circuit interrupter is required to protect a PC from voltage surge. The $10 power strips you see at hardware stores with John Madden's face on the box may prevent a sustained surge from causing your PC from busting into flames, but the slow trip speed WILL NOT protect it from damage. But even more importantly, over 75% of computers damaged by power issues are cause by brown outs, not surges. Only a properly rated UPS (uninterrupted power supply), also called a battery back up will protect your PC from both surges and sags in voltage. UPS's can be found in any computer store. Car Alarm Goes Off for No Apparent Reason I have a car alarm that goes off for seemingly no reason. We have had trouble off and on with the key fobs. Sometimes they work to unlock or lock the truck, and other times, they do not. Now we have had the alarm go off for no reason. My husband wants to leave the truck unlocked because he is afraid it will go off, but I don't like leaving it unlocked. It does not matter if we set the alarm or just lock the doors. Has anyone else had this problem? Could a low battery in the key fobs be causing it? Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf11733306.tip.html

Forcing Branches: Bringing a Touch of Spring Indoors
For me, one of the hardest parts about spring (besides keeping the mudroom clean) is the endless waiting for it to get here. The arrival of March (at least here in zone 4) brings the first few promises of spring-the sun is noticeably higher in the sky and the snow at the base of neighborhood trees is starting to recede. Too bad March also brings a huge case of 'garden fever.' The cure? Forcing spring branches may be just what the doctor ordered.
