Photograph Your Belongings for Insurance Purposes I recently got renters insurance. I thought it would be smart for my agent to have photos of the things in my home and to give him a CD with the shots on it. I did that as a general "photo gallery" and then took several hours making a detailed list of the items. However, I found that so many things were too small to show up in the larger shots. So, I began putting things that could fit on the scanner bed and took the shots that way. I even twirled all my rings to under the fingers and laid my hands on the scanner to get a good shot of them. By putting as many smaller things as you can on the scanner, you get a clean and clear shot of each one. Once it was all done, my worldly possessions were all on one CD, and I made a copy for the agent, my daughter and my executor. If something like a break in, fire or flood happens, you will be in too much trauma to remember what you owned. This will help you recover things that someone takes and tries to pawn, are damaged beyond repair and can be replaced. And lastly, if you can't replace it, you may have the only scan of that irreplaceable photo or document that you can at least print out for the sentimental value of. No one wants to think that something horrible will happen, but the odds are 50/50 that it either will or won't happen. This will help you be prepared and feel a bit more in control. I hope this helps. It sure has me. Sandi/Poor But Proud and now Prepared! By Poor But Proud from Salem OR Contest Contender!

Belle is a 2 1/2 year old Blue Brindle Pitbull. Someone my husband knew, left her locked in a cage all day and he didn't have time for her so we took her when she was 5 months old. Belle loves to go on trips with us, whether it is to the park or on a road trip. She love going bye bye! Our dog is very smart. She listens very well and plays great with our kids. She is also very protective of our whole family. We love her and I am so glad she came into our life. By jcollins6404 from Indianapolis, IN Contest Contender!

Make Last Year's Dress Into This Year's Blouse When my daughter was in grade school, I couldn't afford new school clothes every year, so I purchased an A-line (no waistline) dress pattern with the option of cap or long sleeves and three neckline options. The body consisted of a front and two back pieces and it was an easy to sew pattern with a zipper down the back. Back then material was four yards for a dollar, so I'd buy lots of different two yard lengths of material and made several dresses with various necklines and sleeves. The following year, the top of the dresses would still fit her, but the dresses would be too short, so I cut off the hems and made new hems. Those dresses made perfect blouses. Then I added an inch or two to the length of the dress pattern, bought more material and she had new dresses for the next school year. Those dresses became blouses for the following year and she was always getting compliments on her pretty clothes. Amuck from Fairview Heights, IL Contest Contender!

Use White Wine to Clean Red Wine From Clothing About 35 yrs ago when I was in my 20's and going out dancing a lot, I was a red wine drinker. I sometimes ended up spilling more wine than I drank. A friend of mine told me how to get red wine out of my white sweater coat. And it worked! I put the sweater in the sink (with the plug in), and poured some of a gallon of cheap white wine on it. You can see the red wine disappearing instantly. It's like magic! Just keep a jug of that cheap white wine on hand. I still use this method after all these years later. Watch for Used Business Fixtures When you are out just about anywhere, keep your eye out for signs posted items for sale by grocery stores, restaurants, retail stores. As many places remodel, they put the old fixtures up for sale. We were out for a birthday lunch and spotted a for sale sign for highback all wood benches that a restaurant used for their booths until they replaced them during a remodel. They were $30.00 each and in good condition, didn't wobble, no loose boards or splintered boards with varnished finish. They would make good benches for extra seating for company on our back patio so we bought two of them. Also, they make a big space for the dog to lay on or jump on and look out the screen (the bottom part of screened in patio is wood about two feet high). Thrift shops at times have benches. We found a covered piano bench in good condition for $7.00 and our dog likes to sleep on it. We always keep our eye out for something up for sale, but not advertised. It keeps our cost down and ideas flow on how to make it all work and comfortable for all of us including the dog. By Bev from Uvalde, TX Contest Contender!

Keep Recipes in a Three Ring Binder I have made a "recipe notebook" out of a 3-ring binder and clear insert pages to hold all my recipes that were loose in my kitchen drawer. I have also written down my recipes "from memory", that I know how to make, but never bothered to write down. This way my girls will have all of Mom's recipes when I'm gone. Recycle Waste Water in Your Garden A great tip for water drought areas. When taking a bath, save the water! Plants love the soap to kill off insects and salts for the nutritional value. We drink tea, soft drinks, milk, etc. and save those containers. After your bath, emptying your kids pool, after boiling potatoes, corn, eggs etc. let the water cool down. Then water your plants. I will get about 12 gallons from one bath. Why let it go down the drain? Use it on your flowers or veggies. Reuse your dishpan water also. When you get in the habit of doing this you would be amazed on how much would have gone to waste down the drain. By Doreen from Bartow, FL Contest Contender!

Cleaning Solution for Carpet Cleaner I ran out of carpet cleaning solution, and I used liquid laundry detergent in my machine instead. Rate It: Please help. My little Dachshund/Cocker is chewing herself up. She chews, scratches and licks every part of her body. I went to the vet and she had some fleas on her, so he said she had a flea allergy and charged me $250. Enough of that. I am a senior and I can't spend that amount on me. She has no fleas now. She has been given a bath with oatmeal shampoo and rinsed with witch hazel. She has to wear a little shirt so she won't itch as much, but now it isn't working. It did last year. She only itches in the Spring, Summer and Fall. In the nicer weather. Please help Cricket. By sassier299 from Burtchville, MI Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf376730.tip.html

We're working on the leash training. He loves to be around other people and loves kids! We couldn't ask for a better dog! Rate It: Dehumidifier Is Not Working Properly I have a Sunbeam dehumidifier. I think it's a 30 pt. size, but size is not important. My problem is that after I empty it, the "full" light stays on and it will not run. The book says that if the light remains on, the water drawer is not in place properly. There is only one way to put the drawer back in and it fits properly when I replace it, but the light stays on and the dehumidifier will not run. When I fool around with it long enough, I can finally get it back in it's proper place, but this is a bit unnerving after awhile. I did not have this problem when it was new. It's a little over a year old. I tried to call the 800 # listed in the manual, but no response. Is there a trick or two to getting the water drawer back in place properly so it will run. I would appreciate your help. By chef4u from Sylvania, OH Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf74078177.tip.html
