Daily Thrifty Tips
Volume Three, Number 32, May 3, 2004
http://www.ThriftyFun.com

Hello

Hope every had a great weekend. We added two new features over the weekend. They are:

1. Send Me Reponses

At the top of every article you will see a link that says "Send Me Responses". This feature allows you to sign up to receive notification when a tip, article or request is responded tp. This is helpful if there is a particular request that you want to follow. It's not uncommon for requests to receive new feedback weeks after they were first submitted, this way that feedback doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

2. Related Links

We now have some related links at the bottom of each article.

New Contest!

Congratulations to Patricia who won our last contest. For information on our new contest visit the link below. Thank you to everyone that has submitted tips. Since we are getting such a great response we are going to do 10 day contests this month so that we can give away 3 books instead of 2.

Frugal Gifts for Kids

Whenever I run across a good kid's CD (sometimes I merely borrow them) I burn as many copies as I need and keep them for nieces, nephews and friends. I pay only $10 for a box of 14 CD-Rs and get 14 gifts for .72 cents a piece. And the kids love to receive their own music.

Save Money on Milk, Freeze it.

This money saving tip saves me so much money. My family doesn't like drinking powdered milk. So to save money. I have a big freezer and when milk is on sale. I buy a LOT. I pour a little off each gallon into the milk bottle in the fridge and then I freeze the rest. when the milk in the fridge is getting low I just go to the freezer and pull out what I need. It takes about 24 hours for it to thaw. I just set the bottles in the sink and when they are almost completely thawed I put them in the fridge. I am never out of milk this way. Try it, you'll save lots of money on milk.

Recipe Organization

I am a recipe collector and I started having piles of recipes all over the place. I bought an accordion pocket file and labeled the pockets according to recipe types. It works as my "quick file" until I can sort and file them into my file cabinet (where I have file folders labeled down in my office). By Tawnda Thomas

Request: Ink and Marker off of Vinyl

Does anyone know how to get ink and marker marks out of vinyl? I have a tan vinyl top card table that my son has drawn all over and would like to remove the marks without ruining the table. I have tried a few cleaners, but none have worked. I even heard hairspray would take up the pen marks, but no such luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Guide to a Growing Trend: The "Green" or Ecological Wedding
By Blake Kritzberg

Does it seem like the phrases "ecology" and "wedding" could hardly have less in common? With the average wedding costing well over 15 thousand today, one would think so. And yet, the "green" or ecologically-friendly wedding is gaining momentum across the nation. The green wedding, like any other wedding style, has its tribal features. By tribal, I mean the signs and signifiers that help tell the guests what the wedding is supposed to mean, and how the couple prefers to appear. From a tribal perspective, a green wedding can be hauntingly romantic, with its outdoor setting, its focus on living plants, and its less-formal gown (often made of hemp) that brings to mind fairy outings from 400 years ago. In personal appearance, the ecology bride is often the gamine type. Even on her wedding day, her fresh face forms a contrast with the heavily made-up cover girls of bridal magazines. When it comes to more functional aspects, the green weddings shape and flavor flow from three main goals: - Do no harm, - Patronize earth-friendly vendors, and - Reuse/recycle.
