Tulle and Lights Wedding Decor

For my daughter's wedding she wanted to use lots of white lights. At this time of year you can't just go out to your local department store and buy them so we decided to borrow as many as we could. Fortunately, we were able to borrow almost all that we needed. We have a very large church and both the sanctuary and the basement were decorated as the reception was downstairs. It looked great! Also, tulle is extremely cheap to buy and also to work with. It can be reused, which I am thankful for as I have another daughter whom I am sure will someday want to get married as well!

Are you someone that just doesn't have a good place to store your vacuum cleaner? You end up standing it in the corner but hate seeing it there. I have the solution for you. Make a cute cover and no one will realize it's your vacuum cleaner. Even if you do have a closet to stick it in, this cover will keep off the dust.

Squeaker

Squeaker is a 7 weeks old kitten. He was abandoned at the lake when he was approximately 2 weeks old, left starving, sick, and cold. We found him hiding under a rock and nursed him back to health. For fun he likes to get into as much trouble as possible!

Today's Tips

Refurbishing Kitchen Cabinets

If you cannot afford new kitchen cabinets, do what we did. Purchase, stain, and then attach some inexpensive crown molding to the top of your cabinets. Then re-stain the cabinets to match and add some new hardware. I guarantee all your friends will "think" your cabinets are brand new!

Cleaning Chair and Staircase Spindles

The best way I've found to clean chair and table leg or staircase spindles is to use wet dental floss. It gets into all the grooves and you can get to the dust quicker and more efficiently than by using just a cloth.

Baytril Could Be Bad For Cats

If you take your cat to the vet for a BACTERIAL infection, do NOT allow the vet to give BAYTRIL (enrofloxacin) injections! It causes blindness in cats. The FDA and Bayer have not been informed of actual numbers of adverse reactions due to lack of vet/client information. Bayer (800-422-9874 or 888-765-3203) produces it and the drug label says "FOR DOGS ONLY".

In dogs, it is given only as an initial dose, with pills to continue treatment. Three of our family cats were dosed at a dog's weight twice their own. They are all DEAD now!

Floroquinolone antibiotics CAN cause crystals in the urine, stones, blockage, renal failure/rupture and death! Antibiotics are ONLY appropriate for bacterial infections!

Have the vet show proof (labs, WBC, pus, wound, pneumonia, UTI, urine, etc). Lab books in the public library that explain your labs/tests, are the same for animals (ranges vary). Drug resistance infections can occur in pets and transfer to humans. The intestinal infection can kill people with decreased immunity (cancer, AIDS,frail, meds). For 10 years the FDA has repeatedly refused to allow BATRIL in feed for animals used in human consumption because of transmission of bacterial resistant infection. We get it by cleaning litter boxes and dog waste.

By DJ

Editor's Note: I did some searching for information on Baytril and it does appear that it may have adverse effects on cats, especially if an improper dosage is given. If anyone has any more information about this, please post it below.

Starting Plants from Cuttings

Tips for starting plants from cuttings. Post your ideas.

To root plants or trees. It is best to start with New growth from the plant, (the soft stems). I dip them in rooting hormone and then a flower pot of sand. Keep moist and in the shade. Water daily when needed.

Custom Books for Friends

I save all kinds of stickers, colored paper (backgrounds) string, beads, fabrics, jokes, cartoons, anecdotes, etc. I then buy $1.00 mini photo albums and make custom books for friends, I decorate the outside with their name or design and put things I know they will like and colors they will like inside of it.

Cleaning Paint Rollers

Paint rollers are inexpensive enough to throw away after use, but I hate to send them to the landfill if they can readily be cleaned.

When I am done painting I use the ring from a canning jar to strip off left over paint back into the can. I use a garden hose to thoroughly wet down the roller and begin moving the paint.

Once the bulk of the paint is gone, I let the full stream of the nozzle hit and spin the roller on its frame to sling out the last of the paint and water. Caution, get most of the paint out first or you will be slinging paint all over yourself and anything around you! The spinning fluffs up the roller so it is ready to use next time.

Painting on a Tight Schedule

My schedule doesn't give me large chunks of time, so something as straightforward as painting a room with latex paint may take 2-3 days.

To keep the roller fresh, when I'm done for the moment, I spritz the roller with a little water and wrap it up in a plastic grocery bag. If it is going to be more than 24 hours before I can paint again, I put the bagged roller in the refrigerator.

Rollers kept this way will stay fresh for 3-5 days between painting sessions.

Sweat Smell on Leather Belt

I have a strange problem. The other day, I was returning from the mall. I closed the front door and all of a sudden smelled something. I checked all over the room for the source of the smell. I sniffed everything in the room, and finally resorted to smelling my clothes.

When I got to the article that was causing the sweaty smell, I nearly passed out. The smell was so stinky and horrible. And what was it? It was my favorite leather belt. My question is this: Does anyone know how to get a stinky, sweaty smell out of a leather belt? The belt is made of very smooth brown leather. The belt is stinking up my house and I don't know what to do. Please help me fix my sweaty stinky smelly leather belt.

Organizing Legal Files

My fiance's disorganization is dividing us! I am VERY serious here so PLEASE respond if you have ANY suggestions. My fiance is a brainiac! He is a psychologist, so we have thousands of papers on evaluations he has done to determine if someone is competent to stand trial and articles about psychology. He is also a lawyer so we have files here at home containing information about clients that he has represented in court.

He is also a forensic expert, specializing in the field of false confessions, eyewitnesses, memory, and death penalty cases involving the mentally ill; therefore, of course, we have thousands of papers, newspaper articles, etc' in involving this. In addition, he is also a college professor, so we LITERALLY have a library in our basement containing thousands of books and hundreds of boxes of papers about the subjects in which he teaches (psychology, law).

Lawyers from all over the country are forevermore sending him videotapes of police interrogations, transcripts of trials that are now on appeal, and letters and faxes. Sadly, he has not organized any of this so it is sitting everywhere! Ever since I moved in with him I have been trying to organize this stuff to no degree.

He refuses to get rid of any of it since he may someday need to reference any of this material. Besides, it is against the law for him to get rid of client's files for twelve-years, I believe. We do have plenty of room to organize these things. However, I have NO CLUE how to start or where to start. Please, please, please...any suggestions will help!

Desperately drowinging in papers & books!

Pug With Yeast Infection?

I have a 5 month old pug named Gordo. I love him dearly but I can tell something is wrong and I cannot afford the vet everytime I think something is wrong.

It started out him getting sick once in a while to now about every other night. He was throwing up but I have changed his diet and feeding times and that has seemed to control that. His stools are still a little runny and frequent. (very frequent) He has an odor even after I bath him. He smells like frito chips if you can believe that one. I put him in a kennel at night and he always wakes to let me know when he needs to go out. Last night he pooped all over the cage and just sat there.

What am I doing wrong or is he sick and I need to consult a vet? I read somewhere that if pugs smell they might possibly have a yeast infection. Am I on to something or way out there?

Painting Ideas for a Room With Half Dry Wall and Half Paneling

My son's bedroom is in our finished basement. Down there, the walls are half drywall and half paneling. My son doesn't like the paneling at all and I was wondering if I should paint the walls and paneling? I just have no idea what to do. If I would paint the paneling and walls, what colors do you think would look nice on them? His favorite color is blue. If you could help, that would be great!

Find New Places for Getaways

I think we all get in a rut and tend to take "mini" vacations to the same places over and over. That generally means it is a place we enjoy, but I am always looking for a new "getaway". I am sure you feel the same.

Let's share some of our "favorite places" with each other!

Any tips on Making a Flower Vase from Bottles?

I have several empty large liqour bottles that are unique in shape and size. My friend gave me these after we have been drinking them over the past year.

I've decided that I would like to decorate at least one of them and transform it into a nice flower vase for her. She loves flowers and I think that it will make a wonderful friendship gift from the heart for her to add to her decor in her new apartment.

Any tips or instructions on transforming these bottles into attractive vases? (even getting off the labels too!)

Thanks!

Recipe for "Paste" for Removable Fabric Wall Art

Several years ago I found a recipe for a home made "paste" solution that you could soak fabric in and then hang on the wall. (Ex: cut out balloons and bears.)

When you wanted to change the decoration, you just simply grab a corner of the fabric and pulled it off. No damage was done to the wall Sometime a light cleaning with hot water was needed to get a small amount of "paste" residue off the wall.

I can't remember the ingredients to this solution. It may have had corn starch or fabric starch. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

He is one of the most caring, sincere, reliable and giving people in the world. If this happened to someone else Dino would be first in line to help. The people who care about Dino are doing everything that we can to help however we are hoping that there are charities or people out there who can help. If you know of anything please let us know.
