Make Your Own Disinfectant Solution

I never buy any anti-bacterial or bleach spray for my bathroom or kitchen anymore. I mix my own. I buy a bottle of bleach every so often and put a little in a container, then add water. I keep a bottle to clean and keep down germs in the bathrooms and in the kitchen. I had saved several bottles, some squirt bottles and some spray bottles, and they have really come in handy. Our weather changes so often and I used to catch a cold so easy. Now I try to keep everything wiped down with my own brand of inexpensive anti-bacterial solution.

When people come by with the sniffles, I get out my bottles after they leave and do door knobs, refrigerator and ice dispenser, phones, toilets, sink knobs, light switches, and any other object touched. You can really go through a bottle quickly, so that is why I started making my own. It really has worked and saved me. I have only had one cold in the last six months. I have allergies and asthma, so it is very important for me to take good care of myself.

I did a little research on how long the bleach mixture would be potent and 99 percent of it said that it would still be potent for up to a month although, it usually only last a week or so around my house. I also forget to mention that when my bottle is almost full, I add a drop of dish soap. I wait till the bottle is full to do so ,to keep it from foaming up. I also forgot to mention how well this works to get stubborn stains out of light colored carpet. I spray a little on my carpet, let it sit a few minutes and then use my carpet steamer. The color of my carpet is hard to explain so I put a pic of the carpet with this feedback.

My husband just completed a custodian certification course and was told that bleach, mixed with water, is only potent for 24 hrs. After that it may smell like bleach, but it no longer can be used as a disinfectant. You may want to mix your spray bottle to use only when needed. And ask around, there may be other info regarding this. I just wanted to share what he was taught.
