My family is throwing a surprise 60th for my mom. We custom ordered invitations in choc. brown/hot pink. These will be the theme colors for the party. We have rented a party truck that makes all gourmet pizza's in the brick ovens right off the back of the truck. They also supply salad, cappuccino and gelato. We will have guests bring appetizers or desserts if they ask what to bring. We have ordered stainless steel individually boxed pizza cutters for favors.

The tables will be decorated with hot pink cloths and the centerpiece will be a wine glass filled with whole coffee beans (chocolate brown) and a votive candle lit in each. The stem will have a faux hot pink gerber daisy and matching bow. We are making a tree by painting a branch and then cutting out different size 6 and 0 and placing pictures of my mom through the years in them and hanging them on the tree. We have also ordered brown and pink balloons.

We ordered a picture of the 3 grand kids specially framed and personalized with "Mimi's girls" on the bottom and all the kids are dressed in chocolate, brown and pink. We have also custom ordered a chocolate mousse cake with hot pink icing. There will be Italian music playing in the background and we will buy red/white wine and place custom labels on them with a picture of mom and date of party.
We are playing some games and have thought about playing something that was popular during the 1950's.

We are going to give out retro candy (Mary Janes, dots on paper, etc.) for game prizes. We have also researched and printed up some fun facts from the 1940-50's and will frame and place them on the tables for guests to enjoy. I hope all this helps. Happy party planning!

Hi Monique, In five days, I will witness the culmination of two months of co-planning my mom's 60th birthday. It was tough going at times but it's really all coming together very well. In fact, the RSVPs exceeded our expectations.

We are giving personalized mint tins (www.themintbox.com) and special Africentric thank you's wrapped in organza bags. Hope that helps. CKL

I am having a Surprise Prom themed party for my mom's 60th. The cheesy balloon arch for "Prom Pictures" of the guests, carnation centerpieces, a Dj that will play 50's music, the crowning of the Prom King & Queen (my mom & dad) etc. Hopefully it will be a good time. Hope this helps

I'm doing centerpieces with items from my mom's life in the center of each table. I'm going to make little vignettes. For example, she still had her first baby doll, the cake topper from her wedding cake, a prize she won in high school for a home ec class. I'm going to try and arrange the stuff under glass so it can't get messed up. I'm hoping it'll be a little conversation starter for everyone.

I need a theme for a mother 60 and daughter 40 birthday party. I need a theme. I was thinking of a black and white party. Everything is black and white and mother and daughter and only the center pieces are in red.

You could find pictures of your mother from the 40s,50, 60s, 70s, and so on. Make posters using the pictures and other sayings, fads, photos, etc. that are representative of that decade. Also, you could have cocktails and appetizers that were trendy during those decade displayed infront of the posters. For example, the 40s would be when she was a child. Kool-aid, punch etc. was popular back then. The 80s were all about champagne, wine and cheese. You get the idea.

i suggest strongly that you do not purchase favors on-line. i ordered personalized candle favors from BEAUCOUP.COM at almost 4 bucks per favor for my mom's 60th and was terribly disappointed.they looked like items from a 99cents store.internet ads are terribly misleading, so i have learned.

I am looking for ideas for my dad's surprise 60th birthday party. I have decided on a South African sporting theme (Rugby, Soccer, Cricket, Tennis). However, it is quite a formal party! I visited the toy shop and obtained various balls which i will be using as table decor. I collected photos depicting the various stage of his life. I wil compile as a DVD and project it. I will be using his trophies, cricket memrobilia and tennis rackets as display items as well. I need ideas on a cake. and making a life-sized cut out of his favourtie cricketer but not sure which is the most cost effective way.
HELP!

Wow. Im 11 years old, and my family is planning a 60th surprise party for my Nanny today. She doesn't know about it, which is great.
I made a huge card made of bristol board, and my mom is taking my Nanny out to the mall for about an hour and a half, and while they're gone, I'm getting all the guests to sign the big card of bristol board I made.
Then when they get back, we will all scream
SURPRISE!
I'm so excited for tonight. Hope I gave people some ideas. Even though I probably didn't. I'm only 11 after all!

I am trying to come with a theme for my mom's 60th surprise party. I am trying to think of something that won't make her feel old and I want it to be fun. I already have the caterer and hall for the party, I just need a theme. Any ideas?

RE: 60th Birthday Party Ideas

I'd go with a subtle "Sweet 60" theme. Subtle so she feels special and not uncomfortable. Maybe a coursage with pink rosebuds and a little gold worked into the ribbon. Same colors for table and cake decoration. Invitations and cake can read "Sweet 60". Mostly, I'd hire a professional photographer and have a nice album, the kind that can sit on her coffee table, made from the photos. She can have posed shots of family and special group pics with her and old friends. The photographer can mill around and take lots of candid pics. We did the photographer thing for a special birthday for my mother and the album is now a prized possession. I have a framed photo of all the female family members with big grins showing just a little leg for the camera. (03/01/2006)

RE: 60th Birthday Party Ideas

Just forget her age and plan the party as if it were for another person your age. From a 60 year old woman. (03/01/2006)

RE: 60th Birthday Party Ideas

I will turn 60 in less than 2 weeks. My Daughter is planning a party (That I am not supposed to kmnow about. LOL) that is going to be like a kids party, even down to playing "pin the tail on the donkey". I think she has invited a lot of people and they think it is going to be a lot of fun. I am a kid at heart anyway. Good luck on your party planning. (03/01/2006)

RE: 60th Birthday Party Ideas

How about a DJ and 60's music, that's a lot of fun. Also invite your guests to dress 60's style. Have a guest book with a column for "comments" and plenty of disposable camera's around for pics. You could even hire an "Elvis". (03/02/2006)

RE: 60th Birthday Party Ideas

A great themed 60th birthday party is 50's memorabilia. Decorate with rock and roll memorabilia, records, guitars, and an inflatable juke box. (03/13/2006)

RE: 60th Birthday Party Ideas

I have been thinking about a party for my husband for his 60th. Reading through the comments I thought maybe adding a historical timeline of events that have happened during his lifetime. It woudln't have to be just historical, but things like VCR's and stuff too. Good luck with the party. (03/21/2006)
