This is a picture of my 10 year old cat Max. We got him when he was a year and a half old. Someone had left him in a trailer when they moved out. A neighbor heard him meowing and rescued him. They placed an ad in the newspaper and that's how we got him!
He has always been a very skittish cat, he still runs whenever there are loud noises. But he is the sweetest cat ever. My 7 year old son loves him and I totally trust the cat to never hurt my children.
Max doesn't have a mean bone in his body. I think he's a Maine Coon/Persian mix. Max's favorite pastime is running from our 1 year old cat Newton who is always terrorizing him.

Grandson with Credit Card Offer
Thank you for your donations to Katrina relief. We have many family members and friends in Biloxi and New Orleans. Luckily we have heard from most and they are safe. However there are others we still have not been able to contact. Keep up the good work.
Our grandson just wouldn't give up the "credit card" promo that came in the mail, but at least he seems to know you need to read the fine print.

Make Your Own Gift Certificates for Christmas
My tip is for a Christmas gift idea. Several years ago, I made up certificates for my granddaughter, then about 4 or 5, to give to everyone in the family. I made up a 'coupon' with the words, "Good for one kiss, payable whenever presented" or something to that effect. I don't remember the exact wording now. Her job was to cut the coupons apart, then because it was to expensive to laminate them, we covered them with clear contact paper. The she wrapped them to give to the family. Most are still carrying the card in their wallets/purse and occasionally 'present' it for a kiss. My granddaughter will soon be 10.

In this article we outline some tips to help you get more life out of your carpet.
1. Rearrange Your Furniture
It is good to move your furniture from time to time to change the traffic pattern in your house. Your carpet is worn down faster where people walk.
2. Vacuum Regularly
Dirt helps wear down the fibers in your carpet. Vacuum regularly and place a welcome mat at your home's entrances. Also consider a "no shoes" policy. High traffic areas can often use vacuuming once a day while low traffic areas can be vacuumed a couple of times a week.
3. Area Rugs
Depending on how your house is laid out you may have some areas that will have high traffic regardless of how your furniture is arranged. Consider a area rugs in these locations.
4. Don't Let Dirt In
Keep the walk ways leading to your house clean. This will cut down on the amount of dirt that is tracked into your house.
5. Shampoo Rugs
Shampoo rugs at least once a year. Consult your manufacturers specifications for what type of cleaning equipment and/or detergents are appropriate for your type of carpet.
6. Spill Awareness
Treat spills quickly for the best chance of avoiding a stain. If you have kids, make sure they know that they need to tell you about spills immediately so they do not have time to set.
7. Snip Loose Threads
To remove a loose thread that sticks up above the fibre use scissors to snip it instead of pulling on it which can pull out more than just the thread.
8. Designate Eating Areas
Many spills can introduce oils into your carpet which attract dirt and help lead to a dingy looking carpet. The less you eat in carpeted areas the better your chances are of avoiding these types of spills.
The cleaner you can keep your carpet the longer it will last. Hopefully these tips help you get more life out of your carpet.

Businessman Marrying His Secretary Joke
"Well, my dear," said a businessman who had married his secretary, "I must get someone to replace you at the office.." "I've been thinking of that, " replied the bride. "My cousin is just leaving school." "What's her name?" "John Carson," said the bride.

The dryer in our house has the lint trap on the top. Sometimes these things are hard to clean. For a quick and easy way to clean the trap, I just pick up a piece of lint and use it to collect the rest. If there is lint on top of the dryer the little ball of lint will pick that up too!

This isn't really a tip, but I wanted to share this site for making theme cakes. So many people write in wanting tips for parties I thought you might want to look at this and see if you deemed it worth sharing. It's on the Woman's Day site:

While arranging some pine boughs in a vase as a centerpiece, I ended up with pine sap all over my hands. I tried soap, Dawn, scrubbed, and scrubbed... nothing... still sticky.
I went upstairs and got some toothpaste (not the gel kind) and put a quarter size dallop in my hand then added a bit of water. Washed my hands like you normally do and the pine sap was gone....no sticky!

I'm not having any luck getting my hydrangea to bloom. It forms the flower heads, but only 1 or 2 of the flowers open. What can I do to make it bloom like it should? I've had it for at least 7 years, and it has never bloomed.

I have an Hibiscus (Rose of Sharon) tree. We received it in the mail in March. It really took of after being in the ground for about 3 weeks. It bloomed, and started growing new branches. But it is at a stand still now. It hasen't grown since about 2 months ago. Is this it's way of protecting it from the cold?

How Often Should You Change Your Furnace Filter?
I'm hoping someone can settle a dispute between my husband and I. I really just want him to see it in print, then maybe it'll sink in. How often does everyone change their furnace filter during the winter months? He changes ours twice a year and really honestly believes that it is often enough. I say it should be every month during November to April. What do you think? I'll show him all responses.
Thank you.

Anyone out there know how to build a pond vacuum? The pond is about 2500 gallons. It has an irregular shape and is 1 to 5 feet deep with fish. I am too cheap to buy one. And like to do this sort of thing.

What causes a blue-ish tinge color on the bottom of my bathroom sink? I noticed the light blue coloring is concentrated around the drain hole area. We have hard water here. Also, the sink is chipping off porcelain and leaving an awful looking black spots where it's been chipped. The sink is about 28 years old. From the looks of it, I guess it's time to replace it? How can one avoid this next time? Appreciate any help on this matter.
Thanks!
