Ingredients

  • 1-2 lbs. ground chuck or ground turkey (I use ground turkey, it is less greasy. Depending how meaty you like it, use 1 or 2 lbs.)
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup or 1 onion, sauteed (you can add more onion if you like. I also saute a can of mushrooms, we like a lot of mushrooms)
  • 1/2 bag tater tots

Directions

Put raw meat into bottom of ungreased pan (a 9x13 inch glass pan is what I use.) Put sauteed onion on next. Spread the mushroom soup on top. Sprinkle a layer of cheese. Then place a layer of tater tots on top (end to end). Lastly, place the rest of the cheese on top. Baked uncovered at 350 degrees F for one hour.

When some friends of the family make this they put one package of frozen brocolli in as well as a coating of french fried onions (the type you put on Green Bean Casserole) ... even though Im 29 years old this is my favorite "kid favored" recipe. People really need to try it .. its goooood.

What do you do with the can of mushroom soup?
Editor's Note: We've revised the recipe. Thanks for catching that.
