i have noticed on my 3 month old range the one burner that I use a lot is turning a lite tan color. Had a repair man out to check it out "His comment was I am using the stove, Dah, that is what I bought it for. It is the glass is turning color.. GE says it is cosmetic. Has anyone else had this happened. You think that would not sell stove that would do this. I wanted a white top not to be turning a color. Fed up with companies that don't care.

Thanks to all of you for your incredible knowledge and help. I just bought my wife a new oven and was cooking tomato soup on a burner. I took my eyes off of it for only a few seconds and it spilled over onto the top. I got most of the gook off of it but there were still some hard to remove marks on the burner. So I came over here, read most of your comments and used a thick paste of baking soda and water. It's all off thanks to you! Now my wife won't kill me. [g]

OMG! I have been looking at ugly stove for weeks now and I just used the baking soda/water paste recipe and it's a miracle! It works! I have my new back and I am so happy! Now, my mother-in-law can come over and I won't be embarrassed by my stove. Thank you for the wonderful tip!

The best thing I have found was first comet, then the baking soda, add hot water drops and salt, rub with fingers. Good luck

The olive oil and single edge razor blade worked great! I had heavy syrup from canned yams that cooked on. This method to clean it took all of 5 minutes and it looks as good as new! Thanks

I had two different things burnt onto my glass cooktop. I found two different solutions one worked for one, and the other for the other.

The first thing was some burnt on sauerkraut. I wet a new Bounce dryer sheet, and left it very damp, with standing water, and laid it on the stains. It took a bit of scrubbing after, but it all came off. A Bounce dryer sheet will also work with cooked on food in pans, casserole dishes. Just put one in with hot soapy water and let it soak for a while. You will be able to just wipe it clean.

My 2nd stain was burnt on brown sugar. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get it. First I used the stovetop creme, then the Bounce dryer sheet, it didn't phase it. Finally I used a very thick baking soda/water paste, rubbed it hard with my fingertips for several minutes, and it finally came off. Good Luck!

Hello, I have one burner, which seems to be used all the time, rather then the others. Stains have incurred, flat in the surface, not raised - one is large, others are like water drops. Some have a blueish color and I'm scared that I may have to live with this forever. I have tried the stove top cleaners, magic eraser, etc. to no avail. Any suggestions or is my top ruined? I would appreciate any help! Thank you!! I will watch for replies or my email address is thehopes @ comcast. net.

Thank you for all the ideas. All seemed to work at various degrees. Found switching methods back & forth helped. Key is a lot of elbow grease. I am exhausted but it was worth it. Took over 2 hours just one burner.

Can someone suggest me how to clean the stove top? One burner has a black stain on it. There is nothing stuck on it that I can remove with a razor. It looks like a burnt spot or a sort of a discoloration.

I left a pot of boiling water on all night, the bottom of the pot was copper. I was able to clean most of the burnt debris off, but there is still a lot of burnt black on the burner. I have tried to scrape with a razor blade but I am afraid I will scratch the top. Help! Thanks. My e-mail is cbmyers AT cei.net

Hey, I just recently got the flat cook top and I was cleaning it one day and after I wiped it clean there was something that appeared to look like a fingerprint smudge, but when I wiped it off it actually wasn't and it was sort of a discoloration! I don't know how to get rid of it, any ideas? Thanks!

I Have a glass top with those little white drizzled paints on it. well around the big burner I had brown rings. I have racked my brain trying to find something to clean it without removing those lil white things ( I guess those are there to decorate it.) Anyway, one day I was cleaning my sink out with a cup of arm n hammer and some vindegar. that helps clear our gunk in your drains well I applied some baking soda to the top of my glass top and just added water when I needed it. workig it in circles and back and forth gently, my brown stains were gone right before my eyes. funny how a little memory triggers an idea.. good luck ..

I just used my stove for the first with new pans also, and after I was done it appears to be several small scratches on the burner. Can this be fixed?

Mt. Dew syrup cleans anything!! Just don't drink it, lol. My husband worked at a KFC in high school and they soaked the fry baskets in it when stuff got melted/ fried onto them. If you have access to some, I'd try it. He said they played around with it and discovered it cleaned everything- toilets, grease off the floors. Just let it soak on for a while.

My wife and I tried everything, the razor blade took the rough stuff off but not the stain. Even tried WD-40 but no luck. Finally I read that someone had tried a MR. CLEAN MAGIC ERASER, and WOW, IT WORKED! I will definitely recommend these to anyone with this problem.

Of course, only TWO days after we got our new smooth top range, my husband sat a piece of tupperware on it and there are now pieces of plastic stuck to the stove. Obviously if I heat up the stove, the plastic melts, but if I try to rub it off then it just smears even more (not to mention I get burned!) I tried the cleaner and that didn't work, either...I'm going to try leaving the cleaner on to dry and scraping it off...any other suggestions?

Hi everyone! Thanks for the feedback on how to clean a HEAVILY SOILED glass top stove. I took someone's advice to use bon ami, and it worked perfectly with absolutely NO scratching. It took many applications and light rubbing (i was truly afraid of scratching) when i was done...voila :) clean with no scratching, like new again!

My pot boiled over. It was filled with coco and butter. It immediately baked on to my glass cook top! After it cooled off, I tried creme, dishwashing liquid, etc and nothing worked. I figured I had nothing to lose so I poured vinegar on top of the stove and rubbed it into the burned area. Then I poured the cleansing creme on top of vinegar, took a paper towel and worked the creme into the vinegar and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Then I wiped with clean paper towel and low and behold all of the burned chocolate came off!

I accidentally set a plastic collandar on my stove top when the burner was on low. I didn't notice until until it melted into the stove top. I picked it up while it was still warm and a small sliver of the stove top came off with it...(a very small slice about 1/4 inch. There's now a depression there and the glass appears black. Can anything be done about this?

I had burned sugar crystals on the glass top and the regular cleaners did no good. Here was my solution. Rub a little olive oil on the area. Carefully scrape with a new single edge razor blade held at a shallow angle. You should see burned stuff accumulate on the blade. Wipe this onto a paper towel wet with oil. Contuine until smooth. Clean up with a paper towel and water.

OxyClean is a good bet, but the owner's manual for my GE stovetop (pg 14, http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/usappliance/pp980owne.pdf) say that sugar and plastic can cook on permanently unless you take it off right away.

HELP
Someone put a pan wrapped in foil on my glass top stove on top of a burner set on high. Foil adhered to stove top. My husband got most of it off with razor blade, but there's still some there. He thinks it is permanently imbedded into the stove top. It's not even a year old yet. Please help!

Zep Mfg. has a paste product called Best Stuff. It's available directly through Zep. Apply product with damp sponge, allow to sit a few minutes, continue scrubbing then add some water and rinse off. You glass top will look brand new when done. This product is 100% non abrasive. As a side note, this product is absolutely awesome on cast iron bath tubs!!

Use soft scrub......I have been using that for two years on my smooth top and it has cleaned off everything! And it hasn't hurt my smooth top.

DO NOT use a razor blade or metal objects this is going to scratch the surface. You can however use a green scrub pad with the soft scrub.

I use oven cleaner on my smooth top all the time. DO
NOT PUT IT ON WHEN SMOOTH TOP is HOT. Only do
when cold. Leave on for no longer than 10 minutes. Everything will wipe off wonderfully!

OxyClean is AWESOME!! For expecially tough spots, put some OxyClean in a dish (dry) and wrap a wet washcloth around your finger. Dab your finger in the Oxy crystals and scrub the spots. Stove looks brand new. Great advice!! One word of advice, OxyClean dries out your hands if you scrub with your palms as suggested above. But the result is well worth it.

THIS WORKS! Forget about all the other remedies, I've tried them all. The Kitchenaid stove with controls on the front with a smooth top was only one day old and my wife overboiled cranberries and it spotted the top of the stove the day before Xmas. Forget the scrapper or razor blade - they CAN scratch. I used a paste of warm water and oxyclean and then used three fingers to rub the paste in. YOU MUST add hot tap water to the paste as you rub - it took me about 45 minutes with several mixed pastes and adding hot tap water but it worked. Slowly but surely you will see the marks disappear. Then after I rinsed the stove off with warm water I used Dawn detergent on a dish cloth to get rid of the grease look. I then rinsed with warm water and dried. The top looked like it did the day before. HINT: use a couple of tea towels to use as a barrier so the paste doesn't spead all over.

How do I get a stuck pot off the glass top burner without cracking the burner. I left on stew on over night and the burner cooled down and the spills under the pot have adhered the pot to the stove

Solved a similar problem years ago.
Make sure cooktop is cool to the touch.
Surround the spot with dish towels.
Pour boiling water on the burnt on food.
Make sure the towels soak up the excess water, but aim to have the water puddle over the spot.
The spots will loosen shortly and then you get to wipe and repeat the whole process all over again.

I discovered this while making flan.

I have a GE smooth top stove and use their "CERAMA BRYTE SCRAPPER."It is similar to a razor blade but not as sharp so as not to scratch the surface. It comes with a holder. It can be purchased from G.E.Parts Center 1-800-626-2002.

What you'd do would depend on what type of a Smooth cooking surface you have. I got a single edged razorblade in a holder with my stove, and it works for most things. However, I must be very careful with sugar. If I get sugar on it, I must turn off the heat and remove it immediately. If I don't, the melted sugar will ruin the surface and there is nothing that I can do to repair the damage. Check with the manufacturer.

I tried the oven cleaner on my smooth top stove to remove a ring and it did not work. It made more mess that I cannot remove now. It's baked on because the burner was on as directed. I have tried baking soda with and without lemon juice, vinegar soaked on with paper towel, and cleaner made for the smooth top. Nothing so far has worked. At this point, I don't think anything could make it look worse.

Any suggestions?
A. Cope

TRY A COMBINATION OF OXYCLEAN AND ELECTRASOL DISWAHING POWDER SCRUB WITH PALM OF HAND (INCLUDING H20) AND LET SET FOR 2 HOURS AT LEAST. IF HEAVY DEPOSITS SCRAP WITH BLADE THEN REPEAT FIRST STEP. ALSO ITS GOOD TO PUT SOMETHING DOWN ON FLAT TOP WHILE SCRAPING LIKE DISWASHING SOAP, WHICH CREATES A BARRIER FO THE HARSH BLADES AND HELPS WITH REMOVING HEAVY GRIME.

GOOD LUCK !!!

Last week I burnt sugar on my glass top and scrubbed to no avail. Husband came home and used a razor blade at a 30 degree angle & removed it all. I was too scared to use the razor blade. He did just a little at a time slowly and the glass top was cold. I was crying because I thought I had caused "irreparable damage" that my manual claimed. whew! P.s. did not scratch glass!

I would cover it with that new Dawn Degreaser (not sure of the name) and let it sit for several hours. Then I would wash it off. It might take more than one time but I believe that will get as much of it off as anything on the market.

Have you used a flat edged razor to "scrape" it off? Between the cleaner and a flat edged metal spatula I have I have been able to get it all off of my stove top. Or, if that does not work...go back to the company/store you bought it from or call them and ask them what to do about it.

Could it be plastic that has melted? That can be hard to remove. Scraping is what I have had to do then.

Careful that you do not scratch your stove top when cleaning, remember it is glass. My instructions for my stove top though, did not instruct me to have my burner on when cleaning... why not try it when the burners are cold.
