Carbon on a Non-stick Frying Pan

How do I clean the carbon from non-stick frying pans?

I use salt and rub with a paper towel.
Make sure the pan is dry when using the salt,
when it's wet it just gums up and doesn't work.
The salt won't harm the non-stick interior.

This also works with cast iron skillets.
