Certain things do cost more for quality and durability. Furniture falls into this category. In the long term, you'll do better with a lightly used but well made 8" Serta mattress futon from a well known retailer, than a new low-cost one from Wal-mart or Ikea. They have a website and may have more than one location. Check the want ads for advertised cheap new mattresses, call the number and ask if they can get futons. The owner of the mattress outlet place orders them straight from a warehouse at a much reduced price. It was the base model and serves as a spare couch and sleeping place for friends to use after a party.
