Craft Project: Lacy Easter Eggs
By Debra Frick

These eggs can be used as a centerpiece on your Easter table or you can cut a hole in them and they can be used as an Easter Basket. These are easy enough to make that it can be a family project. If you are going to have your children help to make these eggs then I would suggest using quick drying glue instead of a glue gun when applying the decorations. It will just make it safer for the kids. What I love about these is that they are delicate and lacy but pretty sturdy when you go to store them. These can also be made from thrift store or yard sale finds on half empty spools of thread, just tie your ends together to make two toned eggs.

Clyde (Heinz 57)

Clyde is 6 years old and is a Heinz 57 (unknown mixed breed.)

When he was 8 weeks old we got him and his sister from a rescue in Orlando FL. The lady that "owned" the rescue, took only stray dogs and puppies that people had left behind.

We named them Bonnie and Clyde. Their names are very appropriate, they used to constantly escape from our back yard in Orlando. Now we have 2 acres and they can run all day!

He loves to play with stuffed animal. Oddly enough he doesn't tear them apart. But when he gets a new one (I buy them for a quarter at garage sales), he takes the old one out into the back part of our 2 acres until he rediscovers it!

Craft Project: Easy Plastic Chocolate Easter Eggs
By Debra Frick

This article is in honor of my mom Patricia Churchman who, when she was alive, never let an Easter pass without going to our local chocolate shop and buying us the most beautiful chocolate eggs. They were so beautiful that we even did not want to eat them. I tried once spraying one of them with clear plastic spray to try and preserve them but it did not work and became an awful mess. So for all the wonderful moms of the world that buy their kids beautiful works of art chocolate eggs, this one is for you!

Today's Tips:

Safer Driving By Planning Ahead

Winter Driving, sensible and fun driving, year-round.

Besides the usual guff about gearing down appropriately for an automatic or manual transmission, why not reveal the following secret?

Use the brake pedal BEFORE you enter curves, not in the curve!

Slow down enough, through breaking or downshifting before you enter the curve and you won't need to use the brake in the curve (or switch through gears during the curve).

Even better, downshift before you get into a curve. Then enjoy the pleasure of accelerating as you come out of the curve and then upshifting if the road then straightens out.

Either you break on straight-aways only or you aren't looking ahead
and driving like a robot and not anticipating what's ahead.

Cruise controls know nothing of this, or approaching hills or intersections.

Use your eyes and anticipate what's coming and be prepared by being in the right transmission mode and at the right speed before the road condition changes.

Don't drive like a robot, clueless of what's ahead. Use your eyes and if it's a familiar road, use your knowledge of what is ahead.

Use White Out for Tiny Painting Jobs

Need to do a small touch up job on something white but don't have the white paint or don't want to open that big can? For a small, very small touch up job needing white, use White Out. It works great. I picked up a white stand at a garage sale with a couple of nicks and I covered them with White Out and it looks like new

Store Crochet Hooks or Knitting Needles in Tubing

This craft tip is for storing knitting or crochet needles. Using fish aquarium tubing, which is very inexpensive and comes in various diameters, I cut just about an inch or so, pushing it down a bit (so they don't slide off) but yet long enough to cover the tips of the needles. This works especially well for traveling or even to keep the needle inside the ball of yarn for the project you are working on thus not having to worry about misplacing the needle or the hook catching on the yarn or anything else. I have been doing this for over 45 yrs.

Cleaning with Odor-free Oven Cleaner

Odor-free Oven Cleaner is especially great for cleaning dirty can openers and tops of kitchen waste cans. Spray the cutting blade of the can opener, let set overnight, and in the morning, rinse with hot water and a light scrubbing with an old toothbrush. Spray the top of the waste container and let set for an hour or two. The grime will 'brown' then rinse clean in the bath tub.

Affordable Dental Work

Is there a university medical center near you? I have had my entire mouth repaired (and I needed a lot!) at the Dental School of the university at a fraction of what it costs in the mainstream. I went there because I wasn't satisfied with my dental care in the mainstream market. I can't say enough good things about the care given at the school. Dental students are nearing their degree in dentistry and are very carefully supervised by a teaching dentist with advanced degrees. Truly, the best decision I ever made in the medical arena. And yes, in my experience they take credit cards, checks, and cash. Nobody hounds you to pay on the day of service. Make those calls!

Psychedelic Easter Eggs

To make the coolest eggs around, all you need is food-coloring. Simply hold your egg in one hand & drip 1 drop of food-color onto your egg. Next, spin and twirl the egg in between your fingers as the drop of food color swirls and moves around the egg, then do the same thing with another color over that one.

For an even more far-out version: Do the same thing, except put one drop each of 2 or 3 different colors on the egg at the same time amd swirl. These colors should be in the same family, as they will mix and blend together as you twirl the egg. But my top favorite way, is to put a drop of food coloring on the egg, then "Blow" the drop with just my breath, a straw or a blow dryer. This makes a great "wind blown" design. Follow with color after color, letting the colors dry between each application. (yellow and red work well together, as do yellow, green and blue) Needless to say, you'll probably want to buy a 10 pack of rubber gloves from the dollar store before you start this project!

Dry your colored eggs in an old ice-cube tray, wire baking rack (with a plate unter it), on bubble-wrap, or on the upturned lids of bottles. Film containers and old prescription bottles and lids also work extremely well. It also looks cool to outline some of your swirls with a black permanent marker.

"Okay" says the teacher. "But first you've got to say the alphabet."

They boy says the alphabet:

"a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, q, r, s, t, u, v, w, x, y, z."

"What happened to the 'p'?" asked the teacher.

Growing Sunflowers from Seedlings

I'm trying to grow sunflower from seeds using cut plastic bottles and paper egg tray. These are the seedlings after 1 week. FYI, the seed package was written "Sunburst Mixed" and can grow as tall as 180 cm. Actually, I was looking for the kind that can grow about 3 feet height or less but couldn't find them. My questions are, why are they "bending" like that? Is it normal? What can I do to make them straight? Although some of them grow straight and are not bending like that. Should I move them to pots? I can't plant them out yet because they are so tiny, weak and will be destroyed by rain or wind. Any tips will be appreciated. Thanks before.

What breed is my dog?

I got a dog in Jan. 2008 from DENKAI and was told he is minpin mixed breed but I m not sure about his breed. He was about five months old in January 2008, now he is almost 7 months. They told me he will have medium height but now his weight and height is increasing and he is becoming longer, not much taller but longer and gaining weight day by day. His weight is near around 30-31 lbs. and height 19".So please help me to find his breed as some people says he is Rottweiler and some says he is min pin? Here I have his picture which I took in February 2008 when he was almost 6 months old. Now he is more taller and longer then this picture.

Child's Birthday Party On a Budget

I am under great financial pressure and I promised my daughter a skating party, that I can't afford to do. I live in Michigan on a wet and muddy farm, in a small house. I'm looking for cheap but nice party ideas for 8 year old girls. I'm thinking of 4 of her friends, my daughter and my son (who is one year younger).

I had a bookworm party for her two years ago but I can't think what to do that could be done with things in my home that would interest 8 year old girls. I don't have any money to spend on it, maybe $20.00 and I could make the cake. Out of the $20.00 I would have to buy ice cream but I don't think that is a necessity. I'm not sure if these girls' parents would come either, so I'm looking for ideas for food, games, and favors. Thanks for any suggestions.

Attaching Pressure Gauge to Pressure Cooker

I have a pressure cooker that was used one time after I bought it about 5 years ago. It is like new, even the gasket. However, I lost the pressure gauge and had to buy another one. Unfortunately, the brand is discontinued (Innova), but I was told by another company that they could send one that would work. I am not familiar with these cookers and have lost the manual as well (can't replace it). Can anyone tell me, is the pressure gauge supposed to snap on the lid?

I was told by a saleswoman that it was, but I can't get it to do so. I don't remember my mother's snapping on (years and years ago). Will the gauge fly off from steam if it just sits on the lid? It is very heavy. I didn't snap it on the one time I used it and either this one I have doesn't need to be snapped on or it doesn't fit. Please help, I hate to waste this cooker as it was about $80 when I bought it about 4 years ago. Any tips or advice would be appreciated. Recipes.
too, if I can get it to work!
