Today's Tips
Keeping Razors Sharp
By Linda
Someone wrote a tip about putting razor blades in alcohol to keep them sharp. I thought, what a good idea, so decided I would try it on my razor.
My razor is a Venus. I just took the head off an put it back in the tray it came in, poured the alcohol over the razor head. When i got it out the next time to use it, the alcohol had dried up and there was a gummy film in the bottom where the comfort strips had melted. Gross. So don't do it on razors with comfort strips. Bad news. It was a new blad and I had to throw it out. So beware, girls!

Homemade Koolaid Playdough
1 cup flour 1/2 cup salt 1 pack koolaid (any color you like) 3 Tbsp oil 1 cup boiling water
Mix first three ingredients in a large bowl. Add the last 2. Stir until well blended. Remove from bowl and knead into soft dough. Store in air-tight containers.

Smoker's Tip
For you smokers out there here's a little tip. Put your carton, cigarette, or cigar pack in the freezer. It prevents them from becoming stale and tasting like garbage, causing you to buy new ones. I smoke very little and have left packs in there for months that tasted like fresh when I smoked them. Hope this helps you.

Picking Up Broken Glass
To pick up tiny pieces of broken glass, take some tape and roll it into a ball with the sticky side out and dab up the glass and toss away.

Freezing Dry Goods
I put all my new packages of flour and macaroni into the freezer or refrigerator and never worry about it going bad or buggy. All is fresh when I need it.

Traveling Tip
When going camping or on a trip, pack toothpaste, shampoo, cologne and anything else that might leak in a ziplock baggie. This way, if there is a spill, your ENTIRE luggage won't be messed up.

Those CD Cases
When you get all of those annoying "free internet discs" in the mail, always keep the holder that the disc came in. This will keep you from having to buy the "jewel" packs of disc holders in the store.

Cupboard Organizing Tip
Upon cleaning out my cupboard this last time, I found that placing everything into plastic ziplock bags or container made everything easier to get to and to organize. No more guessing if there is anything in the box or WHAT might be in the box. Plus, this will cut down on pests if you are having problems with them.

Gift Box Idea
Instead of purchasing shirt boxes for the holidays, use cereal boxes instead. They are just the right size to slide a shirt, pants, robe or anything else like that into. You can decorate the box with wrapping paper so that the cereal logos aren't seen.

Cream of Whatever
I am 46, work full time and have just returned to college, so time is a squeeze for me. Here is a quick, tasty soup I came up with.
"Cream of Whatever"
I saute a large onion in butter 'til translucent, Blend a can of whatever vegetable I think sounds good at the time juice and all, sometimes I use steamed veggies and puree' with chicken broth, add to pan with onion and heat through, add real whipping cream, occasionally I'll even whip it first, add salt, pepper, garlic or other seasonings to taste and I have supper when I add fresh greens and rolls. It is versatile, real quick and always hits the spot. Squash and pumpkin are wonderful this way.

Conserving Paper
I love to find recipes and projects on the Internet. However, I like easy! Many times I want to print something out that is very short and does not take up a whole sheet. What I do is copy and paste into Word and keep adding to it until I have a whole page and then print the whole thing out. It saves paper and I don't have so much to keep up with!

Other Uses for Coffee Filters
I ran out of paper towels and needed to finish the task I was doing.
I had large coffee filters I bought by mistake (needed small for coffee pot.)
They did the job very well, didn't come apart like paper towels.

Recycling School Papers
Recycling paper can be enjoyable and sentimental! I recycle my children's school papers. I don't have room for them all. However, if I find a recipe or project idea on the Internet that I want to print out, I use those school papers. I get to keep them and not have them take up unnecessary space!

Fantastic Homemade Hair Conditioner!
I tried out this tip that I'd hear years ago, and the results have been amazing. Simply glop mayonnaise through your hair, mix it through and cover with either plastic cling wrap or a plastic shopping bag wrapped tight. After half and hour I washed it out. (Due to the egg content of the mayonnaise, be sure not to use hot water). My hair is so silky and soft, it's unbelievable!

The Foodsaver is not just for food. I use it to vacuum pack face cloths, etc. and for travel. No more bottles spilling out onto your clothes.

Getting Rid of Tough Smells in Clothing
To get tough smells out of clothing, use a touch of Pine Sol in the normal wash cycle along with your regular washing detergent. The Pine Sol smell WON'T be there (unless you use TOO much) and the bad odor will be gone as well.

Peanut Butter Cookie Tip
When making peanut butter cookies, don't use the fork to make the criss cross design on top. Instead, get out your potato masher, dip in a little sugar or water (to avoid sticking) and press the tops of the dough. You have instant criss crosses.

Reusing Spaghetti Sauce Jars
When you empty out a spaghetti jar, clean it thoroughly and save it. Next time you have left over grease from frying meat, you can funnel it into the clean jar and put the lid on. Store the jar under the sink until it is full, then just close lid TIGHTLY and toss in the trash.

Removing Sick Smell from Carpet
My friend came round to my uni at the weekend and he was sick on my floor (possibly due to the stupidly large amount of vodka he drank).
We cleaned up the sick as much as possible and then we bought some bleach to try to destroy the sick and that was still in the carpet.
The smell disappeared for a day or two, but now it is back and as smelly as ever.
How can i permanently remove the sick smell from the carpet and hence my room.
Thanks, Andy
