Today's Tips

Baking Soda as a Skin Softener

The best skin softener that I have found to date is baking soda. When used while bathing, baking soda leaves your skin soft and smooth looking. At about 40 cents a box, I don't think any professional exfoliator can come close to such a bargain! By Michelle H.

Vinegar as a Fabric Softener

Use white vinegar in the rinse cycle of your wash in place of expensive fabric softeners. The vinegar doesn't leave an odor on your clean clothes, and it cleans the inside of your washer at the same time.

Adding up the Savings at the Grocery Store

I usually use coupons at the grocery stores and also buy their saving specials. When I get home I put the money I saved in my savings account and by the end of the month I ususally have around $80.00 in savings! Double the fun and double the pleasure! By Cheryl Walton

Frugal Outdoor Furniture

Metal

You can reclaim old, drab outdoor furniture with a coat of outdoor paint. Much easier than buying new outdoor furniture. If you don't have any of your own, keep an eye open at garage sales. As long as the furniture is structurally sound you can use a wirebrush to remove the rust, apply a coat of outdoor paint and have a like-new piece of furniture in no time at all.

Wood

You can reclaim your old wood outdoor furniture with a coat or two of outdoor stain. Tight up all the screws and bolts. If the furniture was put together with staples and is starting to fall apart you can add re-inforcing nails or screws to make it sturdy again. Just remember to re-stain your furniture every few years and the furniture will last for a long time. And again, keep you eyes open at garage sales. Many times, when outdoor furniture gets old, people replace it rather than fix it up.

Do you have any tips or success stories about frugal outdoor furniture?

Cleaning Stainless Steel Pots and Pans

For stainless steel pots and pans, boil water in pan on stovetop to loosen all stuck or burnt-on food particles. Bring it to a boil and use a spatula to work it, you may have to do this several times but it works. My grandmother taught me this years ago, before they invented teflon. They only had stainless steel and aluminum back then. Be sure NEVER to use abrasives on stainless steel. It will ruin it.

Featured Feedback: RE: What to Do with Pine Cones?

I also have 50 pine trees and many pine cones, so I came up with the idea to make wreaths for any time of the year. I spray them gold for Christmas and add small ornaments and mini lights for a nice centerpiece. I also use them on the front door, by hot glueing them together, and embelish them for the season.
