My son is getting married outdoors in a garden, also the reception will be held at the same place, my question is: How exactly does everyone move over to the reception area? Is there a recieving line?
Instead of having a receiving line, your son and future daughter in law could greet their guests as they walk back down the aisle. After the last guests get a chance to congratulate them everyone can move on to the reception.
If there is any room between the actual wedding site and the food or beverage areas, a reception line could be the most natural way to guide the guests from the site of the ceremony towards the reception (food, beverage areas). If guests exiting the ceremony area see a reception line or see other guests lined up, they will know there is a receiving line. Another benefit is that all guests then get to speak to the bride and groom as well as their parents. The receiving line should be as close to the site of the actual ceremony as possible as opposed to being close to the food and beverage tables. With a receiving line, the pictures of the wedding party should be done ahead of the ceremony, but don't forget the receiving line offers some wonderul opportunities for candid picture shots, too.
